took the boat out blown 496-dual 850's holds 6 pounds until i stand on it for a few seconds,drops to 2 pounds,shoemaker said the pump will do just fine,creager mechanical,i was told by a few peeps that that pump wont keep up it cavitates there for not sending the volume,especialy trying to keep up with the demandes of a 1471-blower,i do believe the tanks r vented,for most tanks r vented im assuming,i believe the lines from the tank to the filter r 3/8,witch is only about 24" to the filter then its 1/2 or 5/8 to the pump,i was thinking of a kieth eikert high volume or the billet one from race pumps any body use these pumps and r they good

The fuel can only flow as much as your smallest line will carry. Run -8 (1/2) from both tanks to your filter and -8 to the pump. Run a "bypass system" to the carbs and set your pressure accordingly. 7 lbs continuous should do it. Don't know what your fuel demands are but if Greg thinks your adequate with what you have it's obvious that your motor is not on the radical side. It's better to run a blown motor with too much fuel than run it lean as that's instant death.

fixed the fuel problem ran the rite size hose,kind of hard to feed a 1471 with a 3/8 fuel line and a carter pump ,put a clay smith pump and -10 lines all the way to the fuel block,exxxelllennttee, u would of thought the local shop would have figuered that out,if u want somthing done rite i gues u have to do it your self

Glad you got it figured out. 3/8" fuel line is definitely too small. :( I use a minimum of 1/2" on anything with a blower and depending on the h.p., sometimes 5/8".

The Clay Smith HP pump is probably the best mechanical pump out there. :) Per memory, I believe that it is a 12psi pump. So, I am assuming that you have a pressure regulator on it somewhere. If you have problems with the fuel pressure dropping with this pump, you might want to install a fuel pressure regulator with a boost reference. It will let you get extra fuel into the motor as soon as you come into boost. :) Just a thought. :thumbsup

no regulator using and enderlie by pass witch is bassically a regulator,just more true than a reg,acording to the olld mane at clay smith,thats how he runs his blower motors,it goes rite back in to the filter,a constant 7 pounds

We run -8 (or better) on any Blower application . Rio is correct,The fuel can only flow as much as your smallest line will carry. no tank pickup filters , no canister filters (if you can help it) Elect pumps as close to the source for each tank when you can, with full voltage . Positive switching between tanks is recommended, And return type regulators are bomb stuff to provide consistant flow and pressure ! Oviously there are exceptions by application and budjet etc Tom
