Danny, I get more details this coming week...it's been a target direction of Bob's for a few years...not sure on the drives...might be a variation on the NXT...:hmm

Definately looking forward to seeing how this comes together! With a 1000 lb's of torque I'm interested in knowing which drive they'll go with as well.

i'd like to see what size/type props they'll use. maybe 40" + pitch + huge dia's due to the low revving diesels?

I know both HTM and Dominator have made a diesel powered cat.

I don't think they make props pitched that tall. They'll more likely change the gear ratio in the drive.

Read an old article the other day, looks like they're using 1.25 gear ratios no transmission on smaller boats, transmissions on larger boats. Still very tall props though. I think it was in that mag whose name we do not mention.

You can mention any name ya like.. I don't have any issue with Hotboat. A lot of the members do, which includes some of my staff, but that is their own deal. After they apollogized to me for a misunderstanding, all is good in the hood as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know if that feeling is mutual or not, but I don't care either?

I know that quite a few manufacturers have tried doing this setup. Most failed pretty bad. :( One diesel powered boat was taken to the Power Boat Trials & Bob Teague's comment was something along the lines of "excellent concept, but not ready for release onto the open market."
As far as I know, pretty much everything that was done on the performance diesel market was/is based off of the 6.6L duramax motor. I understand that there were quite a few problems with the cooling systems as well as the turbo systems. I really would like to know how much the Mercury system weighs. The Duramax motor is between 1k-1,100 lbs. That is a heavy motor considering at a BBC usually weighs right around 800lbs. The power to weight ratio of a diesel usually sucks! Knowing Mercury, they probably have most of the bugs worked out and I am looking forward to seeing how the new projects over there turn out! :)

I checked the spec brochure today on the motor and it is the 480hp 5.9L motor, weighing in at 1350lbs...:hmm
Fuel consumption averages 1gph per 20hp with diesel, accourding to what I've read, which equates to <50gph. A comparable gas installation would approximate to nearly double that figure...

There's no question that diesels are most likely the way of the future..
Either that or alcohol. ;) :D

Doin' the math on Bob's red Speedster (160ga fuel storage), he's got about 45 minutes of WOT available...Islander to the Springs and back, then fill 'er up again...:D

Runnin any boat that fast for more then a minute or two is asking for trouble.. Either engines, or the grim reaper.. :D Or both?

SWEET... I figure the direction will have to change at some point..

I really like this project. :) Was that a standard Gaffrig shifter or did you guys have to modify it for the controlls? The "fly by wire" technology is definitely getting into boats a lot more. I know that on some motors Indmar has the ability to use throttle position sensors or standard cables to operate the EFI system on the boat.
Is this boat being built in Mira Loma or in Perris?

Damn! That looks like it will be an awesome boat! If anybody could get a diesel to work in a performance boat, it would be Eliminator! since those are the 5.9L motors, Im assuming they are the Variable Geometry turbos? Im wondering how well the VGT's will work with water? Maybe a more traditional turbo with wastegate would be a better performance method. (just thoughts running through my head)

Panama City? Are your lakes frozen already?
I don't understand the idea of taking such a new and experimental boat so far. Why not shake it down a little closer to home?
Anyway, great project and I look forward to hearing more. Diesel seems like such a good match for a boat.
