That'll be changing in the future.. It's kinda par for the course with any start up board, that people are going to make it exactly like what they are used too..

Give it a couple of weeks and the newness will wear off.

My goal for the future of this site is to hopefully have a place that mfg's can participate in without fear of getting bashed..

Probably most important to me is to create and develop an enviroment that's easy to use for the guys that are doing the "custom builds" (boats, race boats, cars, bikes) so that they can easily upload massive amounts of pics for us to learn from, and drool over their work.

I registered the domain name "rivercustoms.com" and that will be pointed straight at the "customs" section of this site. The "blog" feature should make it easier for the non computer guys to use etc.. etc..

What I don't want is "Hotboat II" becuase quite honestly we already have hotboat? I'm not boycotting that site or anything, I'll still be on there. I just wanted to try and provide something "different." Right now it's ridiculously similar.. ;) As time goes on though, we'll be branching off and heading our own direction.

I'm glad to hear that Dave,
I have built a Rock crawler from the ground up and a race Jeep mostly from stuff I learned on the 4x4 sites. I have been wanting to do a full restoration/ modification to the old Hallett we have for quit some time, but Boats are a whole new bird. I really don't have the foggiest idea how to build a motor, repair/build a pump, rig a boat or repair a gel coat. I'm the kinda guy who would rather try and do it myself with a lot of help or research then just drop it off somewhere and then complain that they screwed up my boat.

I truly hope you can build this site into that kind of resource. At least bring quality manufacture's to the site so us guys that are into the older stuff have a resouce for quality work. Some one once told me that any idiot could spend big money on a custom boat, but it took a lot of hard work to own a true custom.

It would be cool to see Danny, or Wes build a boat from scratch in a blog.

I see Ultra is already getting started. Thats just cool!

That is what I thought Hotboat would be when I started lurking years ago.

that's where we're going Jeff.. Quite honestly boats aren't that tough. Danny kinda got me into it a little bit (need to learn alot more though), and most of it isn't rocket science.. Just an extreme amount of patience, and elbow grease.

If you have "build pics" of the rock crawler etc.. I'd love to see some build threads or blogs!! :)

Dave this is great, We should be starting work on a early 50's Dodge truck soon. It won't be a complete custome job but will be having some resto work and some custom work. I am not shure of all the details yet but I know it will be getting a 318 in place of the old flathead 6.

I am also toying with the idea of building another crew cab or a 72 Chevy in the near future.

Definately looking forward to seeing that!! :) I love cool projects, and the before and after.. Whether it be restoration, or a full custom! Just seeing something come back to life, and knowing that there's pride in ownership is what it's all about.

I think one area overlooked on most motorsports websites is advertising revenue.
The potential is huge, and I'd wager not yet really tapped.

Offroad.com makes big advertising revenue. From major factory mfg backing to cottage businesses, they rake the $$ in.
Believed to be astronomical ad recipts.

I've been offered money to post threads there. But something is missing, and damfino why the site doesn't catch fire,, but it just doesn't.

Offroad.com has to be one of the lesser popular sites for sure, but is good at concealing it.
Not bashing the site, but the thread hit counts are generally believed to be cooked,, overdone really.

Ya never, ever see a link to it, or a references to any or.com thread, or "I heard about it" on offroad.com, or you can get that info to a motorized question there,, or "I listed my toy for sale at or.com."

My point is, their is a good ad revenue market out there for a worthy site, and I see RD's place heading that direction.

If you can make a few bux doing what you have fun with and are good at, that is, revenue beyond paying the bills,, you have hit the wheelhouse of the best way to spend your time.

Advantastar owns offroad.com now. I met the guy who sold it to them while out pre running a few weeks ago. He pulled me into his camp so he could take a half dozen photo's of my crawler. He told his buddies. " I think I'll build one of these next week." They all just shock their heads and headed back into his totorhome.

Pirate 4x4 is pulling in some cash now a days. They cried and cried for years how they could barley keep the site running and brain washed all the members into giving people who did not buy a $20.00 membership a bunch of crap. They now have thousands of $20.00 a year members and 100's of $100.00 a year vendors on the site. Multiple banner ad's and tons of industry advertising. It took years but the owners seem to just pretty much do Motorsports everyday. If not racing Baja, they are out Rock crawling, or getting beat by our team in Jeepspeed.:point

I am looking forward to what this site will become. I am a hands on guy and work on all my own stuff. I am looking forward to following builds and products as they are created.

Before I became a General Contractor I was a design engineer. Plastics was the game and I trained up with CAD and eventually into Solids modeling and still own a full seat of Pro E. I dug creating products for customers. I hated seeing it all head to China.

As a young punk I worked for an engine builder and built many. Every boat I have had was a project in one way or another. Maybe they don't start out that way but it always ends up that way. Growing up I worked on all my fathers stuff. Just put a starter in his boat the other day. He is in his 70's but still goes to the river 5x+ per year but his health is crap and can't wrench on much any longer.

My current Lavey was bought as a project. It's a '92 that a previous owner just abused. Slowly I have resurrected the thing and were getting there.

I am building my Jeep currently. For the past two years I have now developed a $$ hole in the dirt along with my $$ hole in the water.

Anyway, I am not much for senseless drama. Joking around yes....BNB type drama nope. Let's all hope that crap stays over on HB.

Nor would I.... LOL

As much as I'd like it I can tell you up front there's no way this place is going to be completely drama free. It's inevitable, once people get "comfortable" they will start to have different point of views that cause friction etc..

My main goal is to keep it contained in here and keep it from getting outta hand (f you, no f you!!), and let the rest of the board have solid build(s) & trip content etc..

To be quite honest, I don't care what the build is so long as it's interesting and the members can learn something from it. I'm planning a remodel on my river house here pretty quick and other then the tile / granite some friends and myself are doing it. That'll be somewhere on this site as well. ;)
