View Full Version : I think I have a drinking problem....

My new girl friend told me yesterday that I am like Jekel and Hyde when I drink.....I have heard this before, but not sure what to do. If I am not working or racing I drink...it is as simple as that. I am an excellant engineer, and hope to take the company over, but most people I work with can not party with me. I have learned who I can and who I can't party with, but do I have a problem or is that just my release. I have never done her wrong, but when it is guys night out she hears about it and I usually get in to trouble. WTF is it bad to want a beer when you get off work, or get crazy with the boys?

Well at least you know who you can & cant party with. Took me a few times to figure out not to party w/ people I work with... it wasn't only me it was also them!
Now does she get pissed before or after you go out with the guys?
If you're getting in trouble the morning after a night of partying, and she knows what you were doing, drinking, how much, and details on top of details... then I'd have a talk with my buddies quickly find out who the narc in the group is!

It is not my friends....we have an agreement to be honest. When she or myself calls we will tell each other what happened. It has nothing to do with cheating, I just like to fight when I get wasted with my friends! She has never seen it but for instance this Sat I was out with my friends and I got into a fight. I got sucker punched in the ribs, and she is mad because I was hurting all day Sun. I know I am too old to do this anymore...I really think I have to stop like my dad did 20 years ago. I just need some help from her. and she said yes. We will see....it is hard after a days work I need some relaxation...and thats what alcohol does for me.

If you like to fight when you're drunk, you have a problem.
If fighting is what you do to relax, you have a problem.

sounds like you got chill a little. but i think this also depends on your age.
15-19 o.k.
20-23 alright its time to get it together
23-28 hmmmm
28-and older, quit now.....eventually the wreckless fighting, drinking, pissing off the girl, will catch up to you.
take my word for it.i did it all, just lucky enough to figure it out at about 25,before i really fucked shit up.

I'm told I need to be careful when I drink hard liqour.
I used to drink alot but have cut back quite a bit, getting old.
I keep hearing that "You have to quit cold turkey" and "If you have a problem, you can't drink, period".
It may be true for some, and may be the safest, but moderating yourself isn't any harder than stopping.
The fighting deal is more worrisome to me. Is drinking an excuse to fight? Is it something you can't control? Is the fighting something you don't want to control?
All the best, either way.

So if you like those things in your life then by all means drink up mate! :thumbsup

If you answer yes, you've got a problem.
Can you name one thing in your life, that at some point has NOT created a problem? If the answer is yes, then it's bullshit.
Even the pencil on my desk has created a problem for me at one point.

I would say that if it CONSISTENTLY causes a problem you have a problem.
Which seems to be the case here.

Based on the title of this thread "I think I have a drinking problem.... " you just might.

I think the whole point of his drinking issues or pressumed issues with alcohol is the shit he brings onto himself. Let's face it, we all know the one guy who you want to avoid while he's drunk. If you don't know anyone, then that guy may be you. ;)

I have defiantly scaled back and grown up. I just turned 30, and started my own firm about 10 months ago, so I have allot of responsibility currently. I just like to go out, and have drama free fun now. Me and that girl didn't last, but honestly it was good for both of us. I have been dating a girl for about a month, that I met on Eharmony. It seems to be working out well, and a nice change from meeting a girl at the bar.
