If someone is interested in blank hulls, I am more than happy to lay up a new blank hull for them. My bottom is the same as the Spectra 20. Blank hulls start at $13,500.00. You pick your colors & graphics. :thumbsup

Danny,
Can you do the wood veneer inlay on the cabin/gunwales and in the engine compartment? How much extra?...I know; if you have to ask?
Can you engine builder do a 400-450HP reliable small bolck or LS?
Any new hull aquisitions in the works? considering the state of the boating undustry I bet you could pick up the vector and the old Hallett 240 molds pretty cheap; you would have to tool up a closed bow deck for the 24 though. Just a thought.

Wow that is very reasonable comparitivley speaking. Refreshing, at that price a guy should get two! Any word on where the 18 Spectra molds ended up. I know your 20 molds were very well taken care of. Did the 18s just dissapear. Ever thought of getting the 24 molds from that same good-caretaker? Kudos for resurecting a CLASSIC, I like your style.:beer

John,
I don't do the wood inlays like Schiada, but I do a carbon fiber inlay. I don't want to copy their style, but develop my own style. The Carbon Fiber is a $3,750 option. It is VERY labor intensive. I have attached a picture to show what the carbon fiber inlay looks like.
For a motor, our engine manufacturer has three engines that are small blocks that work very well. They are all based off of a ZZ4 GM Short Block. They come in 425, 450, and 475 h.p. All come with Aluminum heads. The only one that is fuel injected is the 450 h.p. model. The rest are Carburated. The 450 h.p. model's fuel injection comes with a Hogan sheet metal intake and their tuned port injection. All 3 motors come with a 1 year warranty.
I have a new 26' Cat that I am working on, but that will be about 6-8 months before that comes out. Will be very similar to the Eliminator 28 Speedster in terms of styling. As for other molds, right now they are still hard to find for a good one. I would love the Hallet 240, but I was told they destroyed the mold. :( The Vector would be cool, but I want to expand my lineup in terms of size. I already have a 21 and would like to go somewhere 24'-25'ish range, then 28'-29'ish range.

I have no idea where the 18's ended up. I know where the 19' GN mold is, but that is it. Unfortunately right now it is a complete pain if you want to build a boat sub 21'. The Coast Guard regulations are horrible on anything less than 20'. I would love to build the 19' GN boat, but I don't know if it is worth it.
The guy that I got the Cruiser mold from doesn't have the 24' mold. He had the 25' Offshore mold. Even Gene said that it was not that good of a bottom and would start over. I would defnitely be interested in finding the 24xs mold and picking that one up too. Just don't know where it is. :(

I heard a long time ago the original 24 mold was bought up by and ended up at Jacks in Fresno. Contacted them within 5 years and jr. said they had no interest in building even a bare hull for us:confused:. Maybe an issue with a contract? Don't know, they really didn't want to say anything more than "not interested". Maybe, if they still have it they would consider selling. I know it's not the fastest bottom, but that's not really what they're about. Speaking of "bigger" boats the 23 Howard/Crusader was always a favorite around my group, little narrower, great ride and a nice ski racing platform. Just a thought.

I think it would kind of depend on what your taking the gear out of?
I.E> Another similar style "howard / Spectra?" probably not very much?
Out of a flatbottom? You'd have to redo the whole setup. New drive shaft, (propshaft length?) Engine plates?
Definately do-able though. Call Prime Marine and tell them what you have, and what your looking to do, I'm sure they could give you some ball park #'s on the phone.

hey Danny, on those blanks that you could do, are they considered 20's or 21's???
also, are all of the blanks ready for any of the (3) drive types? thanx for the info!

Reid,
The boat measures out at 20'11" so we call it a 21. The configuration of the blank hull does not matter in terms of pricing. I would just have to know what configuration you want at the time of lamination. That way we can be sure to make the transom the proper thickness as well as the size of the motor well.

I would guess for a nice one probably somewhere right around $5,000. A lot of it would depend on options, but something that looks good, has torsion axles, LED's, etc. should be about $5k.

I have not seen one or heard of one, but that is going to be the next boat that I build for stock. If I am able to get rid of the red/gray I/O as well as the Blue/Red jet, I want to build an open bow outboard. Probably put on a Mercury 250 Optimax and do a wrap around interior similar to a wake board boat. Should run in the 60's all day long and be great on fuel.

Absolutely! I WANT to do that... BADLY! I would do an open bow with wakeboard style seating in the rear with a whacker hanging off the back of the boat. If I can get rid of the current inventory, I would lay one up ASAP. :thumbsup

I'm not in the market for such a creature, but what would a Legacy Open Bow with a 300 out back see as far as speed? Seems like it could be a fun setup, though I have no idea on the economics of outboards, so it might be cost prohibitive compared to a BBC/Bravo type deal.

Chris, what I'm about to say is pure research and not proven... If I had to venture a best guess I would wager high 60's with a 300.. If you did the hull light closed bow low to mid 70's.. If you got retarded about it maybe high 70's.
Realistically thought the type of boat I would want, heavy open bow, etc.. High 60's with a 300..
I'm assuming it'd be heavy heavy though.. like Catalina with some big ass cav plates on the back of it heavy. :D
Not that I'm seriously thinking about doing it or anything.. ;) :D Because if I did it the wife would kill me.. but damn I need a catalina boat, and this is a contender.

I could use an ocean boat too ( a hellofalot cheaper to drive 10 minutes put in at LB and have fun), but it aint in the cards. Personally, I think I'd opt for more V on a Catalina setup. I like the Spectra/Howard/DCM hull, but the first time you miss a roller with the entry, the shallow bottom (compared to other hulls) is going to have you wishing for more deadrise. I guess with big tabs/plates and maybe a ballast tank it wouldn't matter as much, but if you're going to do one, you might as well start with the most rough water capable hull you can find.
Since you've just been toying around with the idea, what's the cost difference between a 300 and say a 6.2/Bravo package that would likely push an equal or better top end?

A 300 O.B. is more expensive to purchase than the 6.2, however it works out to be about the same when it is all said and done. The little parts (exhaust tips, exhaust hose, gauges, wiring harness, etc) are all included with the O.B. Once you get the OB where you want it, just plug it in and play. The 6.2 is much more time consuming to install. :)

Dave, Id actually think it would be in the 70's with a proper set-up and moderate weight (not super heavy and not "cant walk on the gunwales thin either). One of the guys here has a 20' Schiada with a 2.5 Merc on it that I think is a 260 horse version. I asked him before and I believe he said he ran low 70's.

I asked a Merc dealer last year and he said he sells the 300 right at $23,000. Im curious though if it would perform better with a 2.5 280 horse or 2.5 drag motor on it? Since the 300 tips the scales at over 500lbs and the 2.5 tips it at about 330lbs. MIGHT be able to find one of those cheaper than a factory new 300 also (I havent priced one out but I got to think you could)

The V-drive is still a work in progress. Had some set backs and are now back on track. Actually heading over to the polisher this afternoon (or tomorrow morning) to pick up the parts. After that, it goes to the powder coater and anodizer. Once that is done, they will go back to Prime Marine for final assembly. I am guessing about 3 more months before it hits the water.
