I bought this car like 5 years ago and have not done much until last week. the fondation is all there and just needs alot time and little money. I pulled about 3 gallons of sand, 50 bottle caps and a 6 pack of misc beer bottles out of this car a few days ago. The last time this car was out looked like the previous owner was partying hard that weekend. I made the 1st trip to kartek and bought some goodies.
rebuilding fuel system
fabbed some new tin for the firewall
dropped the seats off at the apolstry shop
cleaned/cleaning everything
rubbed out the paint
rattle can misc undercarrige
here are some before shots I will shoot photos and post along the way. I am hoping to have it pretty close to done within a month. I am not going all race apeshit with this car since its not class legal anyways, just think of it as a highschool kids dream baja

I have been bouncing around on this project doing multiple tasks at the same time. busted out the rattle can and went to town on the front section of cage.

I packed the CV's, changed out the trans oil and put on a new throw out bearing prior to installing the engine.

That thing is gonna be a monster with that motor in it!! Just a dumb question here, but isn't that a little over powered for that chassis?

I figure its about 100-110HP. as far as overpowered for the chasis, I dont think that will be a probelm, but to tell you the truth your guess is as good as mine. when I had the motor built we kept it pretty mild and went for reliable power. I was thinking when I finish it I might run the WHITEWORKS 250. the course would start in my alley and end at the river.

Should I send the RDP camera crew and a car hauler just in case? :D

Very cool Baja. I had a street Baja many years ago, but it was nothing like yours. I think you'll have a blast in it.
I think the HP numbers are fine for that chassis. VW engines live pretty safe lives in the 100-125 HP range these days.

Damn!!! When you put up those polishing questions I thought it was a little tiny part you were trying to polish!! :D I didn't think it was that big!
Polishing compound from head to toe if I had to guess when you were done. :D

Chassis shouldn't have a problem handling any power. The issue, if any, would be the transaxle.

Bugs have real short wheel bases, if you put shitloads of HP in them they get a little "twitchy" ;)

Looks good, glad to see you are still on it!
Now, go look at my rail thread and the floors, then DON"T DO THAT!:D
Honestly, this car makes me wonder whether it makes sense to spend the $ on a Rhno, or go find an old beater IRS bug, hack the roof off, build a full cage, baja it, put a raised LT beam in it, a mild stroker, and go play...
Of couse, one thing would lead to another, and a turbo or other foolishness. Naw, i need to stick to something inherently slow, or i'll be in trouble again.

that was a pretty cool shadow. I hear what your saying about throwing money at a rhino. I dont know about building a baja from scratch. the way I see it if I was gonna build from the ground up "serious time" I would build a class legal car. 1. you can race it. 2. the resale is decent. but your talking at least 20k for a class legal car. If your serious about a baja you can buy this one when its done 6-7K range.

I hear you.
Thanks for the compliment on the floor...
With my back being what it is, I really have no businees whatsoever in any kind of serious off-road car. The Rhino, while absurdly overpriced and undercapable, is limited enough that I can cruise aorund and visit friends in sand camp, use it on the property, but not really get in over my head.
Your price is fair on the Baja. You've put alot of work into it and if you do decide to turn it, it'll bring that.
My wife would move my ass right out the door if I did that!
My daily driver is a '65 Bug on a '70 pan. It is very low-profile, a 1776 with CB 044 heads, 1.4 ratio rockers, a nice 1.5 header and daul 35mm Solexes. It is really straight, and I couldn't bring myself to cut it up. I get around 20 mpg up here in the mountains with it, thirty a month for full coverage, the same a year to tag it, fix it without a damn computer I love it.
My stealth Porsche:rolleyes:
