I wouldn't exactly label this politics, but with the new section i'd rather not bring down the lounge with drama;)
I'm sitting at home flipping through the channels and i see some Documentary on HBO called 'Hard Times' It's all about Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore, which is, according to the show, the oldest black school in America.
Here is the only scene i could find on youtube it's 1 guy fist fighting 3 or 4 girls in the hallway, as horrible as it is you almost feel as if sterilizing these people would actually do them a favor, it certainly would for the rest of us.
YouTube- HARD TIMES BRAWL
I'm not sure if the point of the show was meant to inspire sympathy, but after watching it i am in no way sympathetic for the teachers or students for the most part. there was one teacher that i felt bad for, he tried and tried but he couldn't even get the class to sit down long enough to teach them anything so he quit after 1 semester, this apparantly happens constantly at this school because they are running on over 60% substitute teachers. These are some of the most ignorant people you will ever set eyes on, it's sad, and for the most part the entire school is like this.
Anyway if you have a chance it's amazing to see what is going on here. Not one kid in the school has broken 1000 on an SAT, only 1 kid in the previous graduating year could pass the Algebra high school equivalency exam. These kids will not sit in class, they freely roam the halls, treat school as a social hang out, they don't even bother giving one ounce of effort to learn, then they complain that the man is holding them down. They have a one on one interview with a freshman boy where all he talks about is "i just wanna be famous man, dat's all, i don't want to be remember just by my family and friends, i gotta be famous man" Meanwhile he reads at about a 3rd grade level.
The principle complains during a teacher staff meeting that a certain teacher only has 3 passing kids in a class of 25, and this is going to cause problems when state officials do their audit, basically what it sounds like under her breathe is just pass them to keep em off our backs.
They complain about not having any funding and all the students coming from poverty, but meanwhile the kids are sporting $100 shoes, designer clothes and bags, etc. They all show up to prom in all white pimp suits in limos and glasses, blinged out, but the way they make it sound they are struggling everyday just to eat.
They then go on to show a meeting between the basketball team and a college recruiting counselor where he explains to the team that because their academics are so poor (SAT scores of 500 and under) that they need to write essays giving excuses for their poor academics like "my grandma died" or "i had another kid" or "i have to work and go to school"
After this they show the playoff game for the state championship where their basketball coach is the school police officer, they end up losing the game and the coach (the officer) starts throwing a shit fit, saying "fuck you, you're fucking cheaters" going on and on making excuse after excuse, telling the kids the refs threw the game, instead of just owning up to the loss like a man, and he is the coach, and an officer of the law..... setting a prime example for these kids, especially since these stupid dopes hinge their whole lives on basketball like they are gonna end up in the NBA, and the coach is the absolute only academic official they have even the small amount of respect for.
anyway i could go on and on but you really need to see it with your own eyes. I just find this totally unbelievable.... i don't know what to say.
