After 20 years of faithful service the red Spectra needs a complete refurb. We're passing it down to the youngest son and want it to provide many years of safe enjoyment.
The original Fotografix trailer had been welded up several times by myself but had reach the point where it needed professional help. We dragged it back from Havasu and dropped it off in Trevor's lap for repair and repaint.
A couple of days later Trevor called with the news that the trailer was worse than originaly thought (a POS at best) and that for a modest amount more than the refurb he would put together a brand new trailer saving the rims and wheels.
We picked it up today and it looks beautiful! Makes the boat look much worse than I remembered.
We'll redo the paint (including new clearcoat on the wood grain), staying with the original paint scheme and the red and white AwlGrip paint. The existing paint is AwlGrip but the clearcoat was an older automotive grade that was available at the time. AwlGrip has a clear now which should last longer than I will.
It a lousy picture but you can see that the paint has retained it's gloss over the 15 years or so since we painted it - in the driveway with a foam roller and a brush. It has never been rubbed out nor waxed in it's life.
Next will be the rear half of the interior. The front and back is different due to the boat being broken into years ago, the top end taken off the motor and the forward seats stolen. We didn't have the money for a complete interior so we fabbed new frames for the front and had them covered.
Lastly will be the installation of the spare twin turbo PFM kit on the motor. The block is an older O-ringed 4-bolt main, steel cranked, 7:1 CR blower moter which can handle a fair amount of boost..
I'll update this thread as we progress, but for now a public thank you to Hamptons trailers for an awesome job.
