View Full Version : Project Eliminator
Well i decided it was time to start another project. After 12 hours 750 miles and one hell of a tow home in the rain this arrived home. We stoped by eliminator on the way home and was able to check out the show room. Mr Leach welcomed us in and was a pleasure to talk too. The wood grain pannels on the front are really faded and will need to be replaced. So many places to start but first things first im going to get it cleaned out, replace the floor, and from there its off to outdrive exchange to have the rail taken off and some gel work fixed. It should be a fun one. Im sure there will be some stuff i need answered so as i go i will ask away. Thanks to my wife for riding shot gun the hole way with me. Any suggestions for a motor? :D:D:D
On a side note, you cali people drive like crazy assholes:D

Only because I did...
Buy a GM crate ZZ 502. Take it to a local performance shop and have it clearanced for marine use, replace the pump bowl with a two piece unit and you're off and running.
CA drivers are not fearless, they are unconcious drivers.

I've had this package since '03. Change all the oil often. Never a problem.
Consistant 60 mph at 5200 rpm. The carb was changed from an 850 to an 800 cfm for better throttle response and mpg. Modified loader, SS "A" cut impeller.

Nice. Shannon will like the smother ride. What are your goals with this? Let me know if you need a hand. Although, I am sure there are plenty of Eastsiders that would be glad to help if you need it.

You will laugh if i tell u i want to make it run over 80. I have a motor combo in my head that will be well over 550 cid. Still un decided if im going to pull the intake and cut for a show and ride plate. If i do that i might as well set it back. Interior is going to be simple, to fronts and a bench or cocktail seats. Right now getting the floor in and sealed along with the rail gone is what im going to tackle first.

80 hmmm. How long is that boat and how much does it weigh?
I had a 23 Sleekcraft(heavy boat) with a warmed over 454 (60 over, cam, etc) that made around 450 hp or so. Turned a Berkeley A impellored pump 5900 rpms. That translated to right at 59 mph(on a good day).
There was a guy that had the same boat I had that did a lot of work on it. I think his, with around 900 hp, went somewhere in the 80s. Not sure, this was posted a while back on another board.
The point is, boats 21 or longer take a lot of power to hit the 80's and above. Even my current boat.
Offer still stands, I am available if you need someone to help.

20.5. I looked at the tag on the side of the trailer it had the boat weight but i forgot. Im not planning on building another boat for a while so its go big or go home with this one.
I think with pump work, shoe rideplate and 800 plus i can get there but what do i know:thumbsup Im sure some where down the road i will need your assitance.
Awesome Tyro! I love it. Great project. I'd go chevy. I know I've broke a few of them here in the last few months:D But I ran the dog piss out of them before they blew. Cheap to repair vs a ferd. i know how you love that blue oval. But in a heavy boat your gunna want to go with a platform that has many upgradable parts. Upgradable and cost effective. :champagne:
Good luck to you and the wifee. If you need a hand you know Im here for ya!

But the best way to do it is with a complete approach. Start with the hull itself. Flip it and make sure it's straight; any hook is going to cost you and become an exponentially worse problem the faster you try to go.
I'd budget for the + side of 800 to go 80. It's a bigger boat, so you might as well get more leverage... set the pump back. If you do it yourself it doesn't cost much and will increase the effectiveness of setup changes with hardware.
As far as the pump, that's pretty straight forward, shoe, rideplate, a quality loader setup for that keel profile and your particulars, an inducer, and detailed stainless impeller.
Just in looking at a couple things in the pics... check out the transom carefully. I'm not speaking directy to Eliminators on this, but on a lot of jets with wood transoms, they used the wood to cut down on the amount of glass they had to use on the transom. So you may have a pretty thin amount of fiberglass in the transom compared to say a Spectra. Because of this, you need to be very certain about the structural integrity of the wood in your transom.
You'll also want to devise an alternative mounting solution for your tanks. either have em welded for mounting tabs at the end of the tank, install bulkheads and bolt them to the bulkheads, or use a strap type setup like you see on marathon boats and Schiadas.
Have fun with it,
Chris

Cool Thread, 80 is a large goal with a big boat, but will be cool if you can pull it off,

I dunna know about that. Them people were driving like fools man.
Well i have been able to get some stuff done. I stared filling in the hole in the stringers. There are a total of 27, yes 27 hole in the stringers. I got 20 of them filled yesterday and will tackle the rest tomorrow. Im but no means a perfect fiberglass guy but i do ok i suppose. You can see in the one pic that the previous owner had for what ever reason took the dam's out between the stringers so once im done here i will taclke that.
Plugging them holes with dowels:thumbsup cant wait till you get this up and running! I can always use another tow boat! :D
When we have the snowbirds are here in Mesa, they take the cake on crappy driving. Unjustly adding to the Arizona ratio.:skull

Yea jimmy figure 3.00 in dowls from ace goes a long way. I have 4 more on the other side and then the holes where the motor feet are. Gunna do a rail kit so i dont need those hole anymore. After that it on to the transom and some repairs there. :thumbsup:thumbsup
Might finish the other side today when i get off. Just have to mix the resin extra hot with the weather. lol that or heat lamps
