Looking to replace my 2 sub boxes that I tore out this weekend. The guy that installed them used 3/4" MDS and they rotted, swelled and split apart after 2 years. Thinking of using 3/4" Clear Plexi since I am in the glass business I can get a pretty good deal on it by the sheet. My question is: Is Plexi any good to build sub boxes out of or should I use something different. I have 2 - 10" RF Marine Subs in each box. Thinking Fiberglass but have never tried it before and really don't want to on this since it would probably turn out like shit if I did it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking forward to hearing the answer to this question.. I've seen Plexi boxes, but they are usually really thick, and re-inforced like nobodies business internally etc.. (Just from what I've seen)

I know Adam is in and out with the boat show going on and all so have some patience with regards to how long it takes for him to get back to ya.

Shoot me a PM with some details (boat?,placement?,etc...) and I can give you some advie and pointers. Being that this is the WFS section I would hate to contradict any advice they would give you in their own section.

first post rookie! found this after hotboat withdrawls.
plexi has to be at least an inch to be worth a damn, my personal opinion is use MDF but coat it very well with resin inside and out. MDF is very porous and will absorb and waterproof it. As long as it's built well it won't crack exposing the MDF.:beer

thats it ,perfect for boat app,you can use plexi on the face for dress up ,bot pre drill all holes and make sure your mdf is 1 in thik.fiberglass boxes are cool looking but heavy, and alot of work, besides plexi boxes are old school ,you know like how unique whops does all there cars:D

Thanks for the reply's, Going MDF with resin and carpet. Going to put some 1/2" Plexi in for a view window and that's it.
Going with 1 - 12" sub in each box in lieu of the 2 - 10" subs that I had before. When I get going on this in the next couple of weeks I'll post some pictures of the boxes (not my wifes :hmm) and me being covered in resin :lmao

Thanks again for all the advise.
