Hypothetically, if I was to purchase a 26' JC pontoon with the 300hp 5.7L MAG MPI and wanted to go faster from the channel to Moabi, what would be a reasonable expectation of drive life if I............

Added a Whipple to it........ they claim

450 horsepower @ 5050 RPM
505 lbs. of torque @ 3300 RPM:eek: drive killer

What could I do to the Alpha drive to help it last.:fsakes:smackhead

Would you suggest a different route?

Thanks Brian.

Buy a Bravo deal...

Buy a Bravo deal...

Going to look at a used one next week and will prob buy it. Not much choice on what drive is back there. Momma wants a toon this summer.

I believe to change to a bravo I would need the complete transom assy, a raw water pump and a way to drive it and a drive. Cons: the Bravo is heavier and has more drag. It would also be costly to swap. (but then again so would repairing Alphas all the time)

Just running ideas thru my pea sized brain. How about a stroker? I believe thr pcm555 is the prob for reprogramming and Whipple says they have it figured out.
What does everyone else do, Carb,FAST management? LEAVE IT ALONE !:hmm

Bobaloo, have I got the deal for you.. I happen to know where a complete (transom assembly and all) Bravo 1 is that's attached to a Scorpion Motor (350 prop shaft HP) for 6 grand..

Should be a relatively easy swap. Interested?

Motor and drive have approximately 50 hours on them "testing" from mercury.. never been installed in a boat to my knowledge.

Hey Bobby, sorry I just saw this. Feel free to call me any time you have questions. Do not do that with an Alpha. The swap to a Bravo is not that difficult, just time consuming. The supercharger and high drag of a toon will be a drive killer for the Alpha. Either find one with a Bravo or get it cheap enough and convert to bravo. Dave's deal is a good one, I will have two Bravo's and transom assy's for sale in about a month also.
I want to ride with you this summer:beer

I am not sure that will work for what I want to accomplish. The Scorpion is only 50 hp more at the prop than the engine thats in there. In a toon with the high drag thats prob only 2mph. I am only expecting about 40 in good conditions as it sits.

I have a complete GEN 6 454 mag motor in my garage but I dont think it will fit in the toon. I have no idea what drives and transom assy's sell for so I need to do some research. No bravos avail on used JC toons from what I've seen, only Playcrafts and Benningtons. They are about 10k more used. This one is about 30k, add 5-6k for whipple what would I be looking at for the rest. can it be done for another 5k or less? Ang says deckboats are too windy, she doesn't know what windy is LOL!:D
Like I said, I'm just toying with the idea and this forum is the best place to ask.
I should just call you Brian, way faster for me than online. I have your cell but will try the shop first.

Thanks.....Bobby

If it's a blue Scorpion 377 cu motor, it's a whole lot more than 50hp like it's rated at. Those motors sound like a big block, have a ton of cam in them and make gobs of power. 350hp is just a rating from Merc like the 525 was supposed to be 500 hp. I have a customer that has one in a 23' v-hull that runs just under 70.

6k is a steal, in fact RD if it's still available send me some info on it, I may buy it just to have it.

I've got the same engine and I've always wondered if there was programming out there to get the full potential out of the engine without having to actually tear into the engine.

Anyone recommend a program or programmer?

Boat is used strictly for waterskiing but would be nice to have a little more top end without having to give up the low-end torque.

BriV210, do you have the scorpion motor in a wakeboat? (Curious) Is it black?

No, it has the 350 Mag...color is yellow and white (took all the stickers off, etc.) and has no tower or wakeboard accessories. Sanger V210.....strictly for waterskiing only. We mostly boat down at Big River.

Outdrive1, is there any chance you picked the engine up? If so, how attached are you to it:D? Thanks!
