I am installing a new motor and jet in my 73 Spectra. I was looking to update my fiberglass tanks to aluminum ones. Does anyone know of a good place to get this done?
Thanks
Andrew

Give IMCO a call; i took the old fiberglass tanks down to them and they built me some direct replacements. I think I remember them costing as about $850 to build them. Glassing them in is another story............ I took the boat to a shop in LBC that has since closed. I really can't say what it cost exactly, seeing that they did other work as well (stainless rub rail, seat frames, etc..).

If you are in So Cal, B&K Boat repair in Bellflower 562-925-7111, they get their tanks from IMCO and can build all the new bulk heads/Braces and they do a great job. I have see at least 3 Spectra/Howards having this done there in the last year, the Howards were belly tanks though. Ask for Ken or Mark and tell them that Cliff Norman had you call.

I called IMCO last week and they qouted me close to $1400. plus freight !!!! I think the poly-tanks from eastern marine will work just fine, but only 19 gal. ea. They are only $188.00 for each tank, a substantial savings. PLease let me know what kinda price y'all come up with, I'd rather go aluminum. Maybe they would do a group deal, I know several guys are lookin for em.. Thanks, Gary B.

You get a much better deal at IMCO if you walk in or go through a shop that does business with them, that price is almost twice what I paid.

I forget what my IMCO bill was but two replacement tanks ordered over the phone and picked up were much less than $1400 bucks, and I had to pay California state sales tax! That was around 1 year ago. That price seems really high.

I agree. They made it easy..... I brought my old tanks in, and they called me in to pick up the new ones. They even discarded my old tanks. i got a few shirts as well!

I don't remember who I spoke to @ IMCO, but he went and checked and called me back and said the only set they had built was for a 24" Spectra. The price he shot me was $1386.00 plus freight to Texas. If y'all could hook me up with the right person to talk to it would be appreciated. Thanks, Gary B.

I found my IMCO receipt. Dated 8/19/2008. The pair of tanks was $885.00 + CA Sales tax for a total of $958.01. Each tank is 33 gallons.
I've got a Spectra 24XS but I shortened the tanks. I doubt IMCO would be using my tank specs for some sort of print. I didn't see the need to haul what the original tanks were designed to carry... almost 100 gallons. So even if you are going with a slightly larger than 33 gallon tank on each side I can't see a $500 difference. $1400 bucks still seems REALLY high.

Thanks for lookin. Mine is a 20 with 30 gal. tanks so they would be about the same. At this opint i'm gonna be the one to try the poly-tanks from Eastern Marine Outle I belive. They are 19 gal. ea., a bit shorter but I really don't see where less capacity will be an issue at this point. $376.00 plus freight is a easier pill to swallow when that wasn't in the budget to start with. Cheers !!!!;)
