Just a small billet project, custom top for an Edelbrock Victor 2R base. It features built in tapered 4-hole spacers for sideways mounted 4150 series Holley carbs.

Meh, cncs are for people who like pretty parts ;)
If you are ever so inclined or will be dynoing the motor, it might be interesting for you to ditch the tapered cloverleaf and machine in shear plate contours to the underside. You also may want to play with your overall plenum volume as well.
Nice piece. Wish mine looked as good.

Chris,
The tapered 4-hole design was typically gaining 12-15hp in my friends single plane applications so that's why I started with it. My other thought was that since this was a relatively mild application the 4-hole tapered spacer would help the booster signal and throttle response (which it did). I count the volume of the spacers as part of the plenum volume and if you noticed there is also a thin spacer between the base and top right now. Dynoing was considered but with this only being a flat tappet cammed deal I didn't feel it was worth it at the present time. It did knock right at 2/10ths off my 1000' ET as compared with my old single plane/single carb set up on this same long block. Flash is 400rpm higher and gained about 100rpm at my peak (same gear and prop).
So how has your deal worked out for you? Any numbers, track, dyno or GPS to share as a comparison of before and after? Is yours in a v-drive or jet application? As far as the looks I see nothing wrong with yours I just don't have access to a bridgeport anymore but I am still able to design. lol

I don't have any "before" readings on this engine. My builder usually did flat plates with spacers cut at 4* (cause the motor is in at 4*) and the Wilson shear plates. We weren't even sure if the pockets I cut on the underside of the mounting pad were adequate to allow the plates to work properly. I must have done something right as the overall setup put out a little more power similar 498s he'd done, but slightly less than others with vacuum pumps etc. The motor had good driveability in Spectra 20 jet, but there was a lot of time put into jetting and idle restrictors to get there.
I'm happy with it aside from aesthetics. Ironically, I've been thinking of ditching the TR/Dual quads for a Wilson single plane/Dominator setup to lower the overall height. I just need to decide if I can live with losing 15-20hp.

I've done about the same mine are Holley 750DPs, done a little IFR work but other than that just jetting, PVs, squirters and idle mixture tuning. I flash around 6400 and will spin over 7300 when I leg it out. It pulls harder and quicker than my old set up but time hasn't allowed for spacer testing to see how much difference plenum volume makes for this deal.
I know what you mean on height, this set up is about a full 12" higher than the old single 4bbl set up. I guess the custom base under the scoop is at fault for some of that as well as my top plate.

The height is a bummer, but it's also where some of the uumph comes from, so whatcha gonna do ;) Your top probably doesn't hurt the overall height much, as you'd probably need to run spacers anyhow.
If you remember Randy/HBJet back from HB/PB boards, I'm pretty sure Dave(his engine builder) tested different plenum spacers a bit during his dyno session, and ended up with an inch or less on his setup. You might try PMing him to see what the differences were. I know there was a thread on it, but that stuff's long gone. At the time he was running a 496ish ci deal with ported 990 heads and a roller cam. HP was somewhere around 750ish, all in by 6500 as it was for a jet. If there is enough HP to be had by manipulating the plenum volume, it might justify drawing up another program :)

I think I remember that engine article, it was posted in HB magazine if I remember right. I actually called Dave from DNE and talked to him about the spacers when I was designing my top plate. At that time he was making those in 1/4", 1/2" & 1" heights. He told me the 1/2" & 1" ones typically gave the biggest gains but it depended on the combination. I bought some 3/4" material to make a spacer out of but just haven't done it yet. Honestly I'm extremely happy with the throttle response and drivability of this deal and have quit testing on it for now. LOL
I really think I need to look into a roller cam next though :)

Looks Bitchen!! I might copy the posts and put them in the billet section if that's alright with you.

No not at all.. I was going to "copy" them so there would be 2 sets of posts, one in the machining section as well.

Sorry the one shown is the only one I currently have programmed, haven't had any interest for a 6-71 top until now.

very nice tr. top,Im interested in having a top built for a different tr. are you making and selling thease? are you interested in making me a top for my hogan manifold with a pair of bace plate stops incorporated?

Thanks for the compliment, currently I am only offering the top I already have programmed.

If you liked this part I happen to have a polished one up for grabs. I've listed it in the classified section here if you're interested. :D
