In case your wondering what a 10/22 is, its a .22 caliber rifle made by Ruger. These things have more aftermarket parts than a Rhino. Froggystyle built one a while back and now I got the itch for a new firearm. I bought the gun yesterday so I've got another 9 days till I pick it up. Today I ordered all the cool shit I'm gonna put on it. New stock, barrel, etc. I'll try and take pics of all the steps of building it and even the first shooting session. Heres a pic of what the gun looks like right now. It won't look anything like this when I'm done. :D:D
Build with pics is on pages 20-21.

Retail price on the one you got isn't bad. What is the accuracy diff between that 18.5" barrell and the one dave is talking about?

That's exactly how it's going to look. I'm going to do a black stock with all stainless. Dave's 10/22 and mine won't look a thing alike when we are finished :D
I paid $296 OTD at Big 5. It was on sale for $249 last week.

Thats a good little scope. I've had a lot of good luck with it. You may want to change some of the trigger parts to help lighten the pull on it and make sure to add a Buffer. The buffer reduces the shock when the slide comes back after each shot and helps to keep your scope zeroed.

What are you going with? I orderd a 16" GM heavy fluted barrel that has some chambering work and some other fancy stuff done to it. And I got ahold of a used factory laminated stock that I'm gonna use. I was gonna go with the Hogue black stock but I just love laminated stocks.
As of right now I'm going to do a black Hogue OM stock, and a GM fluted stainless 20x920 barrel.

I have a couple of those bipods already. Trigger work can cost you $20 or $200. Just depends what you want to do. I went the in between route. For $50 or $60 I could set you up with parts to make the trigger pretty sweet.

Thats the one I was showing you earlier. Its not a bad gun. The stock is nice (same one I'll have on mine), its got a target barrel, and supposed target trigger. From what I've read they are pretty accurate. Probably not as good as what ours will be but it'll be close. I do hear that the trigger could use a little more work but for the money you could just throw a decent scope on it and go. Only problem, Not sure if Walmarts in Ca. sell guns. I wouldn't know for sure since I won't shop there. I know Turners had one when I was in there. I think they wanted closer to $450 though.

California based Wal-Marts no longer sell firearms. I called them last week when I was shopping around. I'd say try Big 5, but they told me they can't (or won't) order any firearms besides the ones they carry.

You're going to be shooting A LOT of premium .22 ammo to get it that low (barrels just like certain rounds). Best I got was .45" with Eley Pistol Match... Works great on critters.
The barrel I got loves Wolf match and thats not too pricey. But it will also shoot the federal and winchester bulk packs good.

Theres a lot involved with the installation of those stocks. You have to bedd the receiver and do a special install on the barrel so that it won't droop since that stock does not support the barrel at all.

I'm sure its a great stock but theres a lot more involved that just throwing a custom stock on a gun. Well thats if you care about it being accurate. The problem with a lot of those stocks is they are made to be shot off of a bench and suck for off hand recreational shooting. Thats why mine is getting a factory Ruger stock. I wanna be able to do any kind of shooting with it.

That Hogue will be a great stock. I was gonna go with one until I found a good deal on a used factory laminated stock. The nice thing is they are durable. If it gets dropped you don't have to worry about taking a chunk out of it.

That depends. The Hogue is a large more ergonomic stock. Fits an adult better. Plus if you decide to shitcan that stock barrel and go with a heavy barrel than you have to get a different stock to fit the barrel.

I could but I'd rather do it here. Doing the trigger work can be a little time consuming. Theres some shimming involved so sometimes you have to take it apart a few times to get it right. If you guys get scopes I can set those up for you too. I have a bore sighter to get it sighted in pretty close so its not super way off.

The scope and rifle should come with everything you need to initially mount it. At least that is what it sounds like. I'll know for sure this week ;)
I'm going with either a 18" or 20" GM HD fluted barrel. I going to shoot it first in it's stock form, then decide on which barrel length to get. After spending some time on that rimfire site, I'm starting to lean towards a 18" barrel.

I've pretty much read the same thing, plus it sounds like the 20" HD barrels tend to make them nose heavy.
No I have not found a place that has them in stock. I'm going to do the trigger work first. Barrel and stock will come in a few months. The boat is going to need some money shoveled into it before the start of the season. So needless to say the stock and barrel will come after that. Maybe for my birthday :D

Its true about the barrels. The only advantage to a longer barrel is when you are gonna strictly shoot from a bench rest. They are just to heavy. If your worried about weight maybe try one of GM's taper barrels. They're really accurate and lighter in weight. And yes, there is no accuracy difference after 16". I went with a custom 16" barrel. Its started as a GM 16" fluted barrel and it has been tweaked just a bit for better chambering and accuracy. ;)

Pretty much just drop in. It when you start to really get crazy and start in with trying to float the barrel and bedd the stock. They all help with accuracy but for what I'm gonna do I think it'll be accurate enough. I don't plan on entering any competitions or anything.

Sorry to chime in late on this one... Been busy.
I built a pair of these late last year. One for me, and one for Aud. What a blast to shoot...
Here they are... Aud's, mine, both and Aud shooting last Thanksgiving...

Love 'em... they look bitchin and shoot great... especially offhand.
Barrels are Tactical Solutions 18" aluminum barrels. Terrible cold bore shot right now for some reason... probably ammo, but drilling nails at 100 yards afterwards.
Volquartzen trigger group on mine, something else on Aud's.
BTW, interesting item of note... on the "Stainless" ruger rifle, the reciever is exactly the same as the blued version (which is actually black paint) but painted silver. That is the only difference. I sprung for the silver reciever on Aud's, but regretted after I saw the poor paint work and realized that was all it was. They are all aluminum... so if you really want bling, you can take it apart and polish it up if you want to.
If you are switching barrels, get the cheapest 10/22 you can find and build it from there.

Thats what I figured...I got the standard rifle and will throw parts at it.
I am gonna do either a 16-18" GM barrel when I can find one. I really like the hawktech stocks and I'm leaning towards the raptor.
I already ordered a simmons scope.

Not sure what color yet....be a little less flashy than atomic:)

260.00 +/-:D
If I won the lottery I would have a new motorhome and trailer for easter;)
I figure I will only have another 110.00 into the barrel and $150.00 for the stock. I like the houge stuff butt for $75.00 more why not have something fairly original.
