Time to replace my wires and loomb on my 454bbc w/ Accel HEI and thru transom headers (wires routed over headers). I have been lurking here looking at engine pictures but am struggling to match what I see here with JEGS or Lopers or whatever. Whatch running? I like the loomb holders that attach to the side of the valvbe covers with all the wires running paralell to the covers neatly from the distributor. What I have now is pretty messy, looks like the p/o made the lengths work as best he could. Any recommendations?

I can't tell by your photos, but would it be possible to come from under the exhaust logs and use a 90 degree spark plug boot? If so, it's tons cleaner than any loom in my opinion. I wouldn't run out and buy a set without testing the idea out first.
I normally have been running MSD wires when I install a distributor for a customer, and I get the ones that do not have the distributor end on them yet, so I can customize length. Here is a photo while I was making up a set, prior to cutting the ends. I don't have the "finished" photo yet, but can still shoot one, the engine is awaiting delivery. Note that this engine will run tubular headers, but I have seen the 90 degree ends worth with log manifolds. Final presentation is much neater, as the four plug wires from each side get run with the wire clamps that hold them parallel to each other up to the distributor.

I agree with running them under the logs if you have the length. You can use the looms keeping the wires parallell together coming down from the distribututor. This is a bad photo but this is what I had set up. And I usually have the msd top cover on tho of the plugs/distributor even though they are a pain. And a side view without the wires on yet. I think it looks cleaner run under and out of site from a visual persective.

Here's the completed job. The MSD wire retainer is not used in this case due to the tunnel ram intake. Even with the small diameter distributor it's an extremely close fit.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o256/obnoxious001/Bill%20Gray%20633/DSCN6655.jpgHi Barry...One question: Are the wire seperators composite or alloy? Reason for asking is EMI is a b-i-g player here. Especially w/HEI.
Hope all's well pal,

Them's plastic ones Denny, should not be an issue.

Your under header install looks exceptionally clean. Thanks for the pix. Not sure from eyeballing it though that the rt angle plug wires will go down behind my fat old panther logs. As clean as under the logs would look, I am not sure it will work on my set up (?)
At this point, from looking at a boat down the street from work, I am leaning towards the Accel rail loombs that attach to the side of the valve covers and use over the header wires. Yeah its out in the open and kind of busy, but more orderly than what I have now. Thank you for any inputs here.
Anybody else run theirs on top?
ps: who even sees the wires when you have a blower? That looks so mean! Wonder if wifey would notice if I dropped one in? Yup. Their goes the entire checkbook! :-(

That is one sweet looking engine! A work of art.

That's why I suggested that you check the fit of a 90 degree boot, I have seen it work on various applications with the logs.

tahnks, I will pick one up from my buddy's shop (used) and try it out first to see if it will work/route.
Your guys engines sure are pretty. Gotta love a polished anything :-)

I should be doing a write up on that build, it's a pump gas 632 cu in deal I built for a guy back east.

bought a bulk roll of MSD Super conductor wire- best idea I've had in a
long time! always custom fit plug wires:champagne:

Super-Conductor wires work very well!
I've threaded these wires into thick aluminum plate that I've drilled, tapped, and de-burred, and it hasn't shredded the wires, yet I can tug on them without them pulling out (I used some dielectric grease to help run them in, but silicone sealant works if you want to step it up and make a seal). So far no noise related issues with radios, or other computers. No misfires either.
This setup is installed on roughly 50 engines with analog MSD6a boxes enhancing the stock magnetos using a G3ignition interface (multiple spark magnetos at the flip of a switch + boost and starting retard, plus variable timing, on otherwise locked out magneto(s)). Many have been in service for more than 5 years with no complaints.
As far as crossing the gap from one wire to the next, or into nearby metal, it hasn't happened with these so far, even when they've been twisted into a threaded hole (3/8-16 thread, deburred).
