Never heard of Right Guard steering. What is your budget? Im SERIOUSLY considering going to the Seastar system in my boat if I can come up with the money. I just replaced the cables 2 years ago and now the helm is shot. So Im thinking about changing from the dual cable rack system now to the Seastar system.

well, i was told it was called right guard, its two cables running to the right side of the motor, on the right side of the boat, which is why the steering wheel is on the right side of the boat. im looking for something so i dont have to change the set up thats on the motor. but i have heard very good things about the seastar system, we have the hydrolic steering on the lavey craft

If your cables are ran like that then you have a rack set-up just like mine. But maybe a different brand. Those systems work fine but still have nothing on the Seastar. If you have Seastar on another boat that you drive, you will want the Hydraulic on this one also. Even after you change the whole steering system out. I say save the money of buying the new cables and all and just go to the Seastar. Just new cables can run you up to about $400 BTW.

I dont really think I do. They come out the transom on the right and loop to the engine. The Seastar hoses could be run just about whichever way you want but, the hoses arent rigid like the cables so they have to be supported so the most common is to run them with the control cables and all straight to the rear of the engine. Much cleaner look actually.

Its Ride Guide which was the Mercury Quicksilver cable steering.
The cables are hard to find now, as they are no longer made.
You can find them on Ebay... just be sure which version matches
yours as there are several types.

I might be the only one not completely blown away by hydraulic. I like the Seastar on mine, but not head & shoulders above dual cable. If you go with cable, I highly recommend a NFB (no feedback) system.
