Im trying to upgrade from a Log manifold to a exhaust riser. So here is the specs .

500 Hp BBC 454 , Panther conversion to Berk Jet, through transom , in a engine cover . I have 31" width of space to work with . Looking for a riser that can fit that dimension . Any and all help is welcome and appreciated
Thanks

I'd like to do the same with my Spectra with a 460 under an engine cover... just have not gone there yet. Working on 11 other things!:D

Hit up the RDP vendors here: Dana, CP, JBP, JBP/LHC for options... I will get to that eventually, but got other stuff in front of the line.

You could go with a pair of high performance logs like these that were used on the Banks and Pfm turbo deals. They flow a lot better than the old Glenwoods or Hardins.

Why not just run through transom headers like Bassett or Rewarder?

Here is what a friend runs on his spectra, they are Glenwood. I have a pair of Bassets for a BBC also, selling cheap.

I'd be interested in those BBC headers for the Campbell... it has OMC square logs that suck worse than RD.

Also be interested in seeing some more pix of tha lid on the Spectra 18. Need to put some stiffeners on mine and that looks kinda nice.

Heat build up under a hatch.

I'm guessing he wants them water jacketed.

Looking for a center exhaust manifold set up . They are under a doghouse engine cover so water jacketed is a must.

Sounds like ur in the same boat as me. If I remember right, I think the Dana's would work. Or the other brand I can't remember that look bitchen powder coated........... a 3 letter name...... CPM's? Shit I forget. Cost wise these were two choices I was considering. These should let ur motor breath well unlike those peewee sized logs. Someday I'll get er done. POst some pics when u get em done. I'd be interested to see ur Panther/Berk setup as well.

Not sure how these would flow better. They look almost identical in dimesions.

Do you really think that Gale Banks would have spent the money to tool up and have cast better logs if Glenwoods were good enough? Not!

perhaps banks couldnt get the rights to use someone elses logs in one of their turbo kits or something so they had to cast their own.

Harman Marine made the logs for Banks and PFM.

Steve,,, you were more correct with your first post. Banks did have his own tooling, and all of his cast aluminum parts were done at Buddy Bar foundry. I know that first hand as when I first worked for him, I was the parts driver, as well as working in the parts department which I later ran for him. It was cool getting to see the inside of the foundry, picking up tooling etc. Not so much fun pressure testing each and every manifold prior to sending to polish, and then once again when they returned from polish.

Here's where my memory may be less than perfect, but I think the Banks exhausts were patterned after the old Aero Marine parts.

The important thing about the Banks exhaust manifolds(for turbo usage), besides the fact that they did flow better due to their larger, curved runners, was that there is also water introduced into the flange of the manifold as the exhaust exits the cylinder head.

If you look at any of the old Banks parts, they all had his name cast into them. He was selling quite a few engines and kits in those days,, shop labor was billed out at $18 per hour. He probably could have bought them from someone else, but that was not his way, not to mention his ego of having his name on all of the parts.

I worked there in the late 70's when his name was synonymous with marine turbocharging.

I have a pair here with no name, there is a pair on e-bay that airchairrider, who works for Bergeron, has with no name but made by Harman Marine and I have seen them with Banks name on them and I believe PFM had their name on their kits, but I could be mistaken. Besides the nice radiused turns the ports themselves have to be at 25% larger by volume.

a friend of mine built a new engine in the 500 to 550hp range. he had it camed to run 54 to 5500 at peak hp. tried it with his logs, and only got 5100 rpm. changed to imco powerflows, and put bigger exhaust bells on it (wanted the old school look). it now turns 5400+ rpm.

some logs are better then others, but even the good ones are not great.

FYI, he had the good logs, before going to the imco's.
