View Full Version : 24' Schiada question

So I have a line on a 24' Schiada closed bow. the boat is a 89. I have two questions. One has to do with the hull. This one was built with a reverse pad that is basically the reverse U shape that runs about 15' forward from the transom and about 1.5" deep, what does this provide? I would guess to feed the prop of a higher X dimension. The other question has to do with the drive system. It has the 454 740 Volvo Duoprop. Now I had a boat with a Volvo, but it was with the DPX drive which is the shit in my opinion, but the 740 drive looks old school Volvo and I am not sure how much power they can take, do you have any idea?

U shaped pad? I've never heard of that?

I've never seen the U-shaped pad before, but we've only rigged a few i/o schiadas, all of them 22's. I wouldn't count on the volvo drive taking as much power as a bravo, we rigged one 22 with a volvo duoprop deal but it only had a small block in it, it's still running tip top to this day. You could be on the right track with the pad there to help feed the prop clean water, but i can't imagine any volvo drive having less of an x dimension than a merc one.

I've never seen a concave delta pad, :hmm but it very well could be.

I don't have a picture of the bottom. The boat is in Arizona. What i do have is the article from hot Boat the owner sent and it talks about the 3 different bottom configurations and this one has the inverted "U".

I put a call in to Lee to ask him about it.. I'll see him tomorrow AM if nothing else, and see what he remembers about it, and how it worked etc..

hey i dont mean to threadjack, but is schiada still in long beach or did they move? where? i drove by the esther address a couple days ago, and didnt see any activity...just curious.

They don't have a sign or anything out front. Unless there is a boat coming or going you would never know they were there......

I asked Lee about this boat by the way.. It was an experiment that they were working on with Volvo at the time..

At the end of the day he said it didn't yield any possitive gains..
It didn't hurt much either though.

Well that is interesting. I had to pass anyway since I would rather have a merc, plus an opportunity presented itself to buy a house so that killed the boat fund for a while.:D
