Any confirmed news on engine/hp?

The rumors have been flying for a long time now.

LS2 400hp
LS3 430hp
360hp motor from the G8

I think they are gonna need to offer the SS/z28 with 400+ HP to make people happy.Sad to say but if that thing is less than 400hp with a sticker starting over 30K they will never sell past the first couple months.

I imagine the V6 car will have the same V6's from the CTS

I agree. I think they will release the v-6 first for 6 months then v-8 for 6 months then an SS....

I have also heard rumors that they are gonna make the Z28 the bad boy. It will be intresting to see if they keep the SS as the flag ship...I would like to see the blown 6.2 from the CTSV show up in a Fbody.

Jay, Do you have any hookups for caddys? My dads lease on his mercedes is almost up and he likes the new CTS.:beer

I am gonna guess that there will be a L76 in the Z28 (362hp)

Probably an LS3 (430hp) in the SS

They have also talked about doing a few limited edition versions. I bet one comes with the 500hp blown moroe from the CTSV.

I think the 362 hp version will start around 30K

I would expect the 500hp version to be closer to 45K

shall see....still aways off:(

I am very interested in this. I used to have a 94 Z28, 99 SS and a restored 70 1/2 Z28 (sold all DAMN BOATING):D. If the price and power are right I will definitely be talking to Jay for a purchase. It will be sweet too if they get the same kind of MPG as the Corvette's do. Will make for a nice river runner so I can leave the truck up at the river house:)

I was thinking the Z28 would get the 400 hp spec'd LS3 like the G8 GXP is getting. I hear the V6 model is coming with 300 HP so 362 HP for the Z sounds low...

I will look for the info that I had seen with all of these numbers...

Here is where I heard of some of this info... It is still all speculation at this point

Thats what I was thinking. If it is near $45K then I will hold off and buy a
2-3 year old ZO6:D I remember when I bought my 94 Z28 it was $22,000 OTD off the showroom floor and my 99 SS was $28,000. If they are near $40k+ no thanks.

That would be a very limited production 500hp Camaro.

There is no new vette with 500 hp for 45K;)

I think price/performace wise the new 6 speed 08 LS36 vette is very hard to beat. The z06 and ZR1's are monsters but your paying alot more for that extra 75hp when most of us would never be able to drive the LS3 to it's full potential.

If I hit the lottery tinight I would still get a Black Z06 tommorow:D

yeah....

Times have changed. When I blew up my 00 SS racing (paid 28K new) at Carlsbad in late 02 I couldn't find a dealer in So Cal that would sell either a SS or WS6 for under sticker.:thumbsdown:mad:

I still to this day miss the raw driving style of the SS. My vette was bar none my favorite car and would have killed the SS in a race but the camaro always felt fun/fast.

I think the V8 Camaros will start right at 29.9K and work up depending on options and motor.

Isn't the LS3 going to have right at 420-430 hp?

I just don't see GM making another engine line for the Camaro.

The LS2 is going away

LS3,L76,HO V6 from CTS,Blown V8 with the 1900TVS going in the CTS-V are alll options.

No way they are gonna put that 500+ hp blown small block in a camaro and steal the vettes LS3 thunder unless it's a special option.

I think they will do the LS3 in the SS. Z28 will be in line with the G8 GT.I would guess the SS will start in the 36K range so it can play with the challenger.

Honestly this is the last go around for the Performance 2door. I don't think they are gonna sell enough V6's to be able to have a ton of different V8 options.(They have to move alot of V6 cars to comply with cafe/carb requirements)

You are right times have changed. They were sticklers on the price back then. John M. and I used to run ours up at Pomona, you? He had a 95
Z28 with NOS. The Camaro has always been and hopefully still will be the best "bang for the buck". The LS1 in my 99 SS was so smooth compared to the 94 LT1 I had (both fun cars). I made it to the very last street legal drags at pomona. I ran a 13.3 @108 with a granatelli MAF and SLP loudmouth(stock tires)

The car eventually ran a 11.9 @117 at Carlsbad with Hooker LT's and a TR224 cam(Car made 366rwhp on Morgans dyno untunned) . I had the car on a pretty serious diet when it popped.

Built an 03 Silverado 5.3 that wen't 14.2 off the bottle on 20's then traded that for the vette in 04:skull (vette went 11.6@123 only time out on a soft launch:p)

Per M/T the difference is a result of a different intake and exhaust. Not sure that I buy that one.

It was a under $42K. Sticker on my base 08 LS3 6sp Corvette was $46,800. I couldn't justify another $20K for a ZO6. The ZO6 is faster but not $20K faster.

If I was gonna buy on my income (lol) I would do a base LS3 like you. Realisticly the cars are only 30hp off but the newer motor has more ci and better heads. I think you could get a bolt on Ls3 to about 400rwhp with intake/exhaust and tuning. For the amount invested you have a car that should/could trap close to 120 in the 1/4:D:skull

Honestly my vette was more fun to drive in the canyons with boltons then with the blower. It was very balanced and easy to drive sideways. Once I put the blower on it was a serious game of pay attentions. The car would get sideways at 60mph in second gear.

I have read a few times that in stock form a 6sp LS3 is pumping 386 HP to the rear wheels. Should be able to get 400 RWHP with just an intake and exhaust. I'm picking up a Corsa Sport system this evening, and I already have a Haltech intake. I'm not going to mess with tuning, at least for now, as the car is plenty fast.

386 would be on a very optimistic dyno but 375 is belivable before modding. Honestly a good dyno tune will give you 10-15 rwhp with the exhaust/intake and would get you over 400:skull

Haltech makes a nice intake...Thats what I had on the C5 before I added the blower.(Vararam is sweet but $$$)

My best is 8.83 but I have never nailed a decent 60' time. My cars is all stock aside from an SLP lid. I have a feeling that the clutch has been slipping since I got the car back last March. I was able to take down my buddies SRT8 charger though which really pissed him off.
