Just ....a kit car... lol...I gotta tell ya....I live right near a place called Cobra restorers .....where they work on real ones ...and "KITS"....I buy parts from him occasionally...every time I go there he always has at least 2 real cobras he tinkering with....I always wander around his shop......and have come to notice the workmanship on real ones ....is pretty rough...they were bare bones early race cars...and they looked like it...The Kit cars around now......many of the ones I have been around ....look way better built...are better looking ......than the real Mccoy....The money is in the real CSX numbers...but I was less than impressed at how they were assembled..

Brian,

Do you build Cobras?

My dad was a dealer for the Kirkham cars for a while then the Shelbys when they were built by Kirkham.

He had a 289 FIA car with a very nice 289 and 48 IDA Downdrafts.

He and I did a ton of open track with the Shelby and Cobra Clubs at Willow Springs, and Button Willow.

My dad got lots of parts from Cobra Restorers. He worked for XKs Ulimited for a long time as well.

Do you know Lynn Park?

My fathers looked identical to this FIA. It was absolutely perfect in every way but he ran it hard. He ran the PS Engineering FIA wheels that were real pin drives. My fathers was set up for 24 hr competition, so it had the little lights on the cut back doors that lit up the #s.

No lol.....I have one Im trying to finish a restoration on....I traded a jetboat that tried to kill me for it....

I will pm you a link to it ...since its not here yet...

I have painted a few of the fiberglas ones...and done some mechanical and wiring on a few,but they were just customer cars that ran thru my shop

I have never worked on an original....I love every Kirkham I have ever seen!

I paid my way through college working at XKs Ulimited and got to work on and drive quite a few original cars. I even drove a few on the track... Honestly, they are pretty rough. Heck they pop rivited the bodies to the tube frame. The pop rivits weren't even DCB spaced. ;):D

Shelby was using the Kirkham cars for a long time, but I guess he had a falling out with them and now I am not sure who is rolling the panels.

I am a 289 fan. I like the 427s but not nearly as much. They are not as fast on the track. They have a ton of push due to the heavy engine.

I have a 466/auto in mine.....It is so overpowered that its is quite.....unnerving to drive at times....It will swap ends at any speed if you blip the throttle a little more than necessary...you definately need to pay attention..:D

LOL, Cobras are known for that. :D Hey, there is nothing more fun than lighting them up at 35mph...

My dads 289 was around 500hp... More than enough for a lightweight aluminum car.

Everytime I see a Cobra I assume it is just a kit car..

They are but I think most kits are far from the old "Remove the pinto body and install" days of yester year.

Factory Five makes a nice kit and I have pondered it many a times. They have also been around many years.

A company I used to work for years back...the owner had a Stallion Kit with a huge rear stance. It had a BBC and a 400 auto. Fun to drive but just wrong on so many levels.

But, I have a Jeep project right now. No offense Bryan.:D

Mentioning a movie where they drop a rice burner engine in a classic American car is about as gay as giving a review on the movie Crying Game. Both are punishable by strapping you to a chair and taking a ball pein hammer to your toes. You're lucky I'm not a mod here. :swear:skull:cool:

Thanx for reminding me; my review of the Crying Game is much more intricate than what I would like to go into here, I will say it did seem very obvious to me but my vision is not hindered like Forrest Whitaker's. I see you enjoyed the movie as well, and I had almost forgot about where they make that Mustang better with some Japanese technology. C'mon Lue, can I get an Amen. :D

I'm glad you posted that...I was afraid to get flamed, but my old high school buddies dad had an original, and he was restoring it, yo would not believe the workmanship that went into that car, the finish was terrible, the fits were not very good at all, it gives yo you a whole new respect every time you see a total cherry original car, someone did a LOT of work to get it that way. Yes they were built for one thing, and that was not car shows!!!:D

But WOW, it was scary fast!!!

Shelby's CSX4000 is finally up to par, now that they are being built by Superformance.

I read on a Cobra forum that Shelby is buying every Kirkham that they are making .......putting a CSX # on it a selling it ...:p

JBB

You read it on the internet, must be true then.;)

Kirkham himself posted it, so I tend to believe it...:p

Fellow car nuts:

I have often wondered how many of you would be interested in one of these bodies. We made a couple of them which just arrived on the last shipment two days ago. All part of our effort to get more aluminum bodies out there. I have no idea if this will work or not. If it does, we will keep making them...but there is one tiny little problem.

Also, on another post someone mentioned they were going to wait for our "next car" on e-bay. Don't hold your breath. I don't see very many more cars going on e-bay. You may not see very many more of any of our cars for a while.

We are selling cars again to Shelby and they are currently buying more than we can produce. Our next car can't be delivered until September--assuming Shelby doesn't buy any more. They are selling them like crazy and we can't keep up with their orders right now.

Does Lynn have a shop in LaCrescenta/Glendale? (kind of on the border) If it's the same guy I'm thinking of he's one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet:D
