Hey guys, whats a 1976 20' spectra day cruiser worth?
Boat has clearly been sitting outside awhile
Has the offshore style seating, which I like, but needs to be redone.
Claims low hours on 460 BBF but who really knows, so I'm assuming at least a buildable core.
20 hours on rebuilt berk pump. Again who knows.
No hull damage. Dude wants a $1000 for it.
I have not seen it in person yet, and dont know about the floors or stringers yet. I have a few emails to the guy but he is slow to respond.

Ok I bought it. I'll drive down next weekend and see what kinda mess I've gotten myself into and will report back here. Hopefully I'll have good news!
By the way are these typically full stringer boats?

All 71-74 Spectra hulls were four full stringer hulls.
75-78 Spectra Jets (18,19 & 20's) were motor box (1/4 stringer hulls).
79-81 went back to four full stringers.

not all that bad putting in stringers like I did. Can't wait to see how it rides now, should be very solid. I'm sure you'l be lookin' for a set of tanks as well. You'll find tons of help, & info on here. Couldn't have done it w/o all the knowledge off RDP.....
Thanks for the compliments on mine. I still haven't hit the 10k mark yet, but getting close. We'll see where it ends soon I hope. GL with yours, & post up some pics.....:D

Its no big deal to add the stringers to this hull.
I did it to my 76 Spectra 20 and it was a different hull.

Good to hear. I have a feeling that the floors are going to be bad anyhow so stringers will go in too.
Stick pictures of your boat keep me awake at night. That is such an amazing piece of work I can't wait til you have it done.
Brent thanks for jumping in with your input. Did you document your work? Id really like to see it.
I was reading another post about floors and stringer the othe day. I need to absorb as much as I can.
I'm picking it up a week from Saturday. I'll post pics as soon as I get it.

Not to worry...... Mine had turned to pretty much crap which is the reason behind the TOTAL Resto. The gel was cracked on top from front to back, no interior as it had rotted away years ago, tanks were probably ok and would hold fuel but had never had ethanol in em, trailer was junk, never had full stringers, floor was rotten, etc, etc... I could have bought another nice one for 5k and been on the water, but it would have never been MINE, or what I wanted. I've had the ol thang since '87 and bought it for $1500.00 back then from a used car lot in east Houston. Took it to the river once before it shelled the original 454. Now i'm on the 3rd interior (done right) second color change (this time w/ gel & not cheap ass automotive paint), who knows how long the motor will last (only has about 3 hrs, but has sat for the last 13-14 yrs) and the pump was rebuilt and bluprinted back in the mid 90's with little run time.
Even if the one you bought is in the same shape as mine was, you've got a great platform to build it YOUR way, and enjoy it for years to come.
My wife says it's gonna be my coffin one day.....:D
Good luck with the new ride :thumbsup:thumbsup

Well its pretty rough. The trailer tows good though. Floors are bad. There was about 30 gallons of water stuck under them. Fuel tanks are bad. the interior in rotted. At least it was there though sn I an make templates. The hull had been painted at some point in it life and the clear is peeling and has dark spots. The motor has Harman Marine all over it. There's not a bunch of spider cracks in the gel though. This poor boat has just been neglected for the last 4 years. I'll start a new thread with pics
