I wasnt sure where to post this but since it is a V-Drive I am working on I figured this would work.

I am removing the 20 some year old carpet in my boat and need to remove the 20 some year old glue as well. Any tips would be helpful I just pulled the interior out and the carpet will come up easy since it isnt glued down any more. But the glue is a PITA.

I will try this out this weekend since we have family coming to visit I will make my retreat to the garage with silver sodas in hand. Paint Thinner will be first.

depending on how hot it is, you may need to get a rag, soak the rag in thinner and let it sit on the glue. The idea is to make it just soft enought to scrap up 90%, then come back and wipe it down.

Paint thinner no worky worky, Probably cause it is 30 year old glue good thing I bought a gallon of acetone at the same time. Slowly eats the glue up. Coming clean now looking better.

6" grinder wheel... Not too long just wear long sleeves and cover up.

Watch the stuff that burns. We had plenty of guys doing there own and wham! That stuff burns right now. Be careful with the stuff that fire likes...;)

ok after many months of procrastination and some spotty working on the boat I have gotten the interior out, pulled the carpet, started scrubbing the glue off with acetone and now I find a soft spot about 3 feet long by 6 inches wide, wonderful!!! Well now I am faced with what to do. I have no fiberglass or resin experience but I am not really scared unless someone knows someone in the oceanside to murrieta area that will do the work for a good price. Not looking for cheap labor just good. Not really sure I want to carpet over the issue and ignore it since I dont plan on selling the boat and would feel guilty anyhow if I did.
