Hot boat has done all kind of test on the 26 deck. I have not seen any reviews on the 23 deck. The 23 that is on the ultra website has a 496 what is the performance like and how does it perform on the water compared to the 26 with a 496ho? In the next two years I am interested in getting one. I work for the local sheriffs dept. in Tucson so it will take time to save up!! Thanks, AZLAW:beer

The 23 is a nice boat, not sure where you do the majority of your boating but if it is Havasu I personally wouldn't suggest it. I have friends that had one, with the 496Mag it would do right about 73, it rides really nice and has plenty of room. Call John West at Ultra, he's a good dude that wont mind talking to you at all about his boats. Good Luck to you and thanks for your service... :thumbsup :)

Most of my boating is done at the lakes near Phoenix on the weekdays, I also like to go down the river by the AVI. 75-80 is right where I want to be, but I want it to handle well in rougher water. I have a 21 foot Jet with a 454, I have wanted an Ultra forever!

The 23 is a nice boat and will handle local lakes during the week as well up by Avi. It can run in Havi in rougher water(not recommended), but the ride does not compare to the 26. The 23 is just a smaller boat and just like any smaller boat the ride is not going to be comfortable in rough conditions. I have spent time in both boats in both rough and smoother water. The 23 will limit your boating. If you can swing it save a bit more and go with the 26. Both are nice boats.

I talked to an owner of a 23. He said he loves the boat but it rides pretty rough in less than optimal conditions. He made it sound like the depth of the tunnels caused the rough ride in wild water. I personally would go with the 26 and a 525 if your looking for 80mph.)

Perfect package or even a 496HO with CMI or Dana headers. Both run on 87 octane and will not suck fuel.

I have a 26 with a 496HO, = low 70's
Ultra26 #1 - has a 26 with the 496HO and CMI header, believe he gets solid mid 70's
If you are going to boat phoenix area lakes and Havi, I would get a 26.
If you are going to boat the lower river, the 23 with w/ jet is a great boat.
Best advise and this is what I did. Call Ultra, talk to John and tell him where you are going to boat and what type of boating you do. He will point you in the right direction. Have seen him do this multiple times, he wants to sell you the right boat for you.

Takes lots of power to make this setup work. A 502/502 setup will work, but you are not going to see good #'s. John D's is the only one really that has worked well (1100 hp).

I have seen one of these on the lower river, it's kind of a slug at best, the guy needed a bigger motor when he built the boat. If it were me I would do the 496mag with an outdrive, for the lower river and the big lakes midweek you can't beat it, IMO... :)

I do not go to the lake on weekends or holidays, I should have been more specific on the "rough water" like when the wind picks up and there is a moderate chop. Like I said I have a jet boat so any wave sucks! If I get the 23 am I still cool enough to come to the Ultra get-to-gethers and regatta? I am only 24 and will be able to get a 26 deck or 27 shadow when I retire at 42. Reference the lakes near Phoenix I did not mean Pleasent, I like the smaller lakes. Thanks for all the replys I look forward to meeting all the Ultra boat owners in the future.:beer

honestly I don't think there will be a huge difference in price...That 23 is still gonna cost you plenty if your going new.
They had a nice blue/white 26' deck in stock with an HO that I bet you could score right now.(if still avaliable)

The blue/white one sold a few weeks ago. Azlaw, Cole is right the price difference is not really that big you will be pleasantly surprised. If you can afford a 23 you can afford the 26 trust me. As for coming to the get togethers of course you can make it, but will it be enjoyable running across the lake at them, no the 26 is the way to go. Give John a call and talk to him. He will not steer you down the wrong path.

Nice, coming from a homo like you I'll take that as a compliment... :D
Still a lot of ducketts IMO, the 23 is on my short list, great lower river boat, can be used in Havasu on slow weekends or on the South end of the lake all the time... :thumbsup

both sweet boats.... Everytime I see a 23 I think of how fun it would be on the lower river.
You would take that as a compliment:smackhead:gayfight
Then I remember how rough it can get on parker and how close the nose is to the water (not enough freeboard) and how bad my back will hurt after getting pounded by waves. 15K seems like a good trade off for alot more boat:skull:):beer

When we had our 21 Ultra we looked hard at the 23 deck and John West talked us out of it.....he knew my wife and I would grow out of it too fast...a lot happens in your 20's. We waited and a later John made us a smoking deal on a 27 Shadow. We went with the 27 with the open bow instead of the 26 deck again because JW knew better than us and knew the 26 deck would not be as safe for little kids. Our daughter is now 2 1/2 years old a JW was absolutely correct that the 27 was the boat for us. Big enough to handle Havasu's rough water, lots of storage, and high enough sides to keep the little one from accidently falling overboard.
Buy as big a boat as you can afford, we learned the tough way that it doesn't take long to out grow 21 footers. If you love the 23 deck, then save a little longer and get the 26. I've run side by side with a number of 26's with the 496HO's and they are right with us in "real world" boating. Start talking now and taking a look at the set-up you like, get some test rides, and sit down and get some pricing. Just remember marriage and kids usually sneak up faster than you think and you don't want to be forced to upgrade too soon.

Parker gets a whole helluva lot rougher then Martinez, on a bad day we don't get half the chop that you guys do...
For where you and the Mocks boat the bigger boat is definitely a good idea...
