Anti-siphon Valve?

I thought i had a plugged fuel line from one of my fuel tanks. I pulled the tank out and removed the 90 degree elbow to find some kind of valve inside. Nothing appears clogged. Anybody know anything about these valves... It appears this valve is causing my issue. What happens if i replace it with an open 90.

i dont see y u cant run 90* fittings from ur tanks...i run straight fittings from the bottom of my 2 tanks (1 on each side) thru inline see-thru fuel filters to a T & then thru another see-thru filter before the pump & another 1 after the pump to the carbs...that might be overkill, but, i have never had a prob with dirt etc...just my .02 cents
