Thanks for posting those Rob. I took it to Apache Lake w/ my kids for Labor Day Weekend. We had a blast. We went from dam to dam. Met some new folks and got some complements from other Spectra owners. All my friends are trying to talk me out of selling it but I have a new hot rod to pay off and do some work on.:smackhead

how much gas does it guzzle just cruising all weekend
how much gas does it guzzle just cruising all weekend
it does better than most bigblocks. I was at Apache Lake for 3 days, didn't use it much the first day other than to Party cove, alot of cruising 2nd day, and went dam to dam on Labor Day and still came home w/ fuel without having to buy any at the marina. ;) You might check w/ '78 gt boat because I believe he owned it longer than I. I have yet to run out of gas on any trips I've been on in it. I can't remember how much each tank holds either:smackhead

interested in any trades? I have a buddy that digs the boat but has a toy he has to get rid of first.
Its a 63' Ford Galaxy has a fuel injected Ford 5.0 HO / 4 speed auto with OD (mustang drivetrain) swapped in. 20" wheels. Body is way solid, all trim is there and in good shape. Its a pretty clean cruiser.
If you have any interest I can put you in touch.

It does pretty good on fuel. When I had it in Cali on the Delta I would bring it out 2 to 3 times a month before filling up. When I had it out at Pleasant I never ran out. I think the fact that the carb has vaccum secondaries instead of being a double pumper helps a lot. I swear if I had the money that bitch would be back at my house right now. Who ever grabs it will love it. The gel is just 31 years old.:beer:beer

This boat was offered here for thousands less than what we would charge to duplicate the engine alone today. 78GTboat, sorry you had to sell it, but I am glad to know that it provided years of faithful service and fun. TAF, project funding aside, I'll bet part of you didn't want to let the turn-key boat go either. Finally, congratulations to the new owner!
Engine specs of which I am absolutely certain: 1969 C9VE-B cylinder block, thermocleaned and magged, bored 0.030 over, all performance block oiling modifications as outlined on the Technical Pages (www.highflowdynamics.net) of our website.
Internally balanced bottom end with 0.010/0.010 460 Crankshaft, Eagle SIR full-floating rods, Ford/TRW 460 Marine forged flat top pistons.
High Flow Dynamics Stage 1 prepped HV oil pump.
Camshaft specs approximately: Lift = 0.515"/0.535", Dur = 0.215/0.225@0.050", LSA = 112*
Double-Roller timing chain.

This engine was very much overbuilt in the shortblock in the interest of durability and longevity. Targeted power was around 400 hp, as I recall, and with an 850 crm carb, single plane intake, and good tune I think it's there. Further, this shortblock and heads could handle a cam kit and OT headers that would make the engine approach 475-500 hp and stay together no problem, if that gives an idea of how overbuilt the engine is. But since it is nevertheless a 400 hp build, the marine clearances are set accordingly and on the low side....that is to say, higher than passenger car engine bearing clearances but low side for high performance hot boat stuff. In short, we built this engine for the Spectra. 10W-40 or 10W-30 motor oil recommended, and with 1 can of cam lube concentrate per 5 quarts of oil. And please, NO FRAM FILTERS.
I treat my engine combos like personal builds and put the kind of love into each of them that makes me wish I owned each and every one one of 'em...hopefully this says something of the build quality to the current owner. And yes, I have thought about this engine from time-to-time (like I do all of them) since it is yet another perfect build that came out just right.
78GT, hope all's well. When you need another 460, just let me know.

Congrats to the new owner!!!! I'm sure it will last a long time...... I'm bummed I never got to finish it. I had the motor built so it could run wide open without hurting it and made sure that with the correct ignition and rev limiter I would not have a repeat of the first motor mishap. Enjoy it and I cant wait to see some pics of it running in the Lone Star State!!! It seems to keep moving eastward!!!!:beer:beer
Hey Lakes....... Thanks again man for the great work and I will keep you in mind if I need another
