41 Cad, ok this car is mine so it will move a bit slower. I work on it when I have extra time. First off I wanted something a little different. I didn't want to see another one at the same show. I think I made a good choice:), I have never seen a full custom 41 Cad. And when I say full custom I mean Kustom with a K. This car will be chopped, nosed, frenched, shaved smooth, and have many more crazy body mods that will have never been done on one of these cars before.
I have already done a lot of work so I will catch you up with some pics.

Marking the roof to get cut. This car is a sedanette, or as most people call them a fastback it is the most difficult chop to do. The chop is a 4-6 with a haircut of about an inch and a half. A haircut is where you take some out off the crown of the roof.
I watched a friend chop his similar style top and he used a complicated zig zag pattern -but it worked.
Then they did the same on one of the custom car shows on TV and it was a much more simple cut then fit method.
None-the-less it sure made the ride look excellent.
Back in those days interiors were tall so you could wear your hats in the car.
Everyone, even women and girls wore hats back then.
Don't hold me to it, but I think the style was continued in '46 after World War 2 for a spell until GM ramped up a new style production model.

For a guy like myself that has little.... Scratch that zero experience with body work etc.
What exactly is the lead doing? I thought (keep in mind I know nothing) that you'd weld, then grind flat, and bondo everything smooth, then paint / primer?

As far as i know Lead is what they used before bondo was around, it's still superior in its ability to fill larger gaps, especially in chops, that way when you slam the door a chunk of bondo doesn't fall off the car :D

Lead when done correctly is a permanant bond so there will be no shrinking and no cracking.:thumbsup
