  1. Minor Upgrades with Barrett Custom Marine

View attachment 598177 Last summer I started finding little traces of oil in the bilge of my boat. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when they would show up. Sometimes I would run the boat hard, and there was no oil and sometimes there would be. Sometimes I would just idle around the keys and come back and there was oil in there.

I spent weeks chasing this leak around, and it left me baffled every single time. Now I don't claim to be some kind of boat...
  2. 525 stage II whipple upgrade by Teague Custom Marine

View attachment 597821 The Mercury Racing 525 EFI is one of the most popular OEM engine packages for adding forced induction. As almost all of these engines are now out of warranty, we are seeing a lot of interests in refresh projects and supercharger installs. A Conquest TopCat II recently came in looking for more power, and we are going to serve it up with a Stage 2 Whipple 3.3L kit. A lot of prospective owners of the Whipple kit are sometimes surprised by the overall cost of...
  3. Building 630 HP out of a Merc 502 - Intake Manifold article

View attachment 597659 We have known since the introduction of the Mercruiser "cross ram" style intake manifold, that it is very restrictive for performance applications. They make good torque at lower RPM's, but fall short in supplying enough air to feed the engine in the higher RPM range (4500 and up). When upgrading a 502 and larger cubic inch engine, that style intake struggles to keep up, especially above 5000, where you need it most. Ideally, we want the horsepower to continue to...
  4. Operation Prop Shaft Seal...

I had a couple months ago been wondering where I had been losing drive oil. It would be ever so slightly down in the reservoir but never saw an obvious leak. Every time I head to the water weather it was yesterday or weeks I check all my oil levels.

OD1 and I were going to hit the Sag 2 weeks ago for a little day trip, he's treated me to time in his Hot Rod Schiada so it was def past due on my turn to be the Chaperone for the day in my Row Boat.

As I was getting everything ready I was...
  5. "Singing the Blues" Update 24 Schiada by Prime Marine

View attachment 597157 This week we will showcase a boat we built for one of our many great customers. This particular individual has been a customer for many years. The boat is a 24? Schiada. It started life with Mercury 500EFI, Imco stand-off box and a Bravo I. It was originally rigged by Schiada and is a very clean boat. Over the years it has had few changes such as a 2.3 Whipple and an Imco lower unit installed. Mostly we have maintained and made slight cosmetic and rigging changes...
  6. It's all about the setup!

View attachment 597135 In this article we will be discussing what a little "test and tune" can do for your ride. In today's economy it often makes sense to keep your existing boat and upgrade it via a re-power, re-rig, or in a lot of cases just dial in the setup. Many people aren't even aware that their boats may not be setup correctly, or that they can capture quite a bit more performance with some simple and relatively cheap modifications to what they already have.
