I'm just using Adobe Premiere Elements. It's...well, it's ok for me but as a recommendation...I think it's a perfect platform for the beginner or "weekend warrior" collecting and editing family projects.
It does way too many thing automatically. It drives me nuts but will help a novice tremendously. The other nice feature is that it has built-in uploading capabilities for youtube. All you do is type in your youtube username and password, click upload and all the presets stay...automatically updates to youtube without ever having to leave the software editing page.
