My hood has had some burglaries lately so I want to put up some motion detection lights. I realize this probably won't stop them but they will allow me to better see what I'll be shooting at. :) Any recommendations or are they all pretty much the same?

Thanks,
SHEP

I love these so much I kinda went overboard and have them everywhere. They turn on automatically, they stay dim and light up bright when the sensor activates which works really well to 15'. The best placement has been 3 on each side and 1 on each end of my toyhauler. It's a good security feature to see the sensor light go on outside the trailer so I can yell at my buddies to stop pissing on my tires in the desert.

Costco has a good looking one ....LED....I think like 30 or 40 bucks. Been wanting to get one or two. Wanna hard wire them, but may try the solar

I have them on all 4 sides of the house, the one on the front is a dual bulb deal and we like it for lighting up the driveway and front porch when we get home and its dark. I just bought off the shelf at Home Depot so no real brand help.

I have the 3 wing led solar light from Costco. Lights up my rear yard well. I'm on 1/2 acre. Get quality cameras while your at it. The lights will help thieves see. Lol

Picked up a few cheap ones from harbor freight a year ago. They were like $25 each with a coupon. So far so good. 3 setting on them.. Bright as hell. They do everything thet are supposed to do... And held up a full year in parker weather.

I certainly agree security lights can be a great deterrent.
The problem with a lot of these LED fixtures, especially the cheap ones, is that LEDs as a lamp source are glary as fuck.
So if the fixture isn't designed with a great cut-off and some means of shielding a direct line of sight to the LED lamp itself, you just might discover you've turned your previously friendly neighbor into a raving manic hell bent on killing you

Yes, they can easily be that irritating to others. I realize a few of you on RDP don't give two shits about your neighbor or anybody else. But, for those of you who do, please consider your placement in order to be respectful of those of us who are not afraid of the dark and enjoy viewing star filled dark skies from our decks or patios. Hell, you might even discover that a bright light shining in your eyes is extremely annoying should your neighbor install one as an act of revenge  --- I know mine did
OK, I'm joking, actually I just shot his out

Don't mount them above your fence line.
LED is a must when dealing with solar.

Mine are from HD. The Batteries they came with lasted one year. I bought replacement that work much better, and 3 times as long.

I have added motion sensing "spots" to my home and shop "Lazer bright" will light up a huge area , not only illuminates but also records and send the video alert to my phone , they are spendy but very effective ..... recently heard a prowler yell "oh fuck" when the back door unit lit him up ;)

If you don't have AC power for the lights, here's a solar charged motion LED I bought off Ebay about 5 years ago. I didn't expect the battery to last this long, but it's still going strong. Harbor freight sells them for $40 normally, but they go on sale for about 1/2 that from time to time.

If you DO have AC power, go for one of these instead. The solar lights work well where you don't have AC power, but the AC powered ones are SOOOOO much brighter. I've been using a pair of the 100w motion sensor lights from eBay for years now. They last about 6 months, but at ~$25 each, it's not a big deal. The light they put out is ridiculous. KILLS the 350w halogen they replaced.

Tons of different ones to pick from on eBay. Here's one that can be plugged in. https://www.ebay.com/itm/10w-30w-50...hash=item5b430d7a7c:m:m1iwkEaZ4TBMjnc4O2DMeaw

Mine are mounted on either side of the garage. I used one like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/100W-PIR-M...706995&hash=item3b02c6dfb3:g:fkoAAOSw7rdagjz1

Does wonders! Off vs on at 8:45pm last night.

These look kinda cool, was thinking about doing the same thing on my trailer and Motorhome.
