LOL, I really wasn't trying to be a dick or cause any drama. I was honestly curious because the topic just kind've disappeared, never to be heard of again.

This is predictable and it has been the pattern over the years for actual racing events that have meaning, but I have never seen this with an exhibition speed event . We have seen many "splinter" groups from APBA Offshore and SBI over the years that grew out of frustration with what some Racers saw as poorly run organizations - so they start their own....

Here are a few examples...

Ted Saberise - Owned and drove the INXS Fountain (he built 2 of them over the years) - Ted raced Modified V Bottom with SBI for a few years with Tres Martin Throttling - he thought he had a better mouse trap and actually stood up at an SBI Drivers Meeting with a "speach" to the fellow racers (I was racing the event and at the meeting) and said " I think we all had enough of this crap, I'm starting a competing organization with big prize money to treat the racers right" --- And he did committing to fund it "personally".. can't remember the name of the new Organization but the requirement was that everyone that joined up had to commit to racing 100% of the races he put on - I think it lasted 2 races or so.

Billy Mauff was racing APBA and SBI when he and a group of Supercat Owners decided they were tired of Rule changes and having to change their equipment every year (primarily engines). They started the "Offshore Super Series" to be funded by a combination of Supercat Owners, promising big prize money, they even had a service that washed your race boat for you when you when it came off the crane....and they more or less "hand selected" the teams they wanted to participate in the series. They had a few years of success - then folded.

Bob Nordskog who was racing a 42 Fountain at the time started POPRA around 1989 (Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Orginazation) after he became frustrated with APBA Offshore. POPRA had a decent run with "local teams" from the west coast with most dated equipment and only a few racers who had equipment modern enough (and a budget large enough) to compete at the National Level with APBA Offshore. POPRA had a decent run - marginal boat counts at most events but at its peak it was pretty good, decent TV package for a few years etc. Eventually faded into the sunset with various people over the years doing an admirable job trying to keep it afloat but not with much success.

Again these were Organized races with Tech, engine spec requirements,, weight requirements, Hull length limitations. If you won your class - it had meaning because it was skill set driven, not check book driven.

It is incredible to me that someone would care enough about an "exhibition speed event" where the fastest boat has ZERO significance as a "competitive achievement" (other than that its cool) to commit to "producing" a stand alone event which is quite obviously a "celebration of themselves" and nothing more..... not to mention the liability risk attached to it....

Save the Exhibition Speed events for LOTO - can't see the Vision of 100 Large CAT's invading Havasu for this event.

NOW if you have an Exhibition Speed Event in Havasu for Magic Deck Boats and put up $10,000.00 for the fastest one and measure the speed in 1000th increments I suspect you have more entries than you can process AND it would probably be more interesting.
The last paragraph now thats some funny shit but true!!! Top Speed Shoot Out are boring on a Lake now in the Ocean I'd watch some cats try to push the envelope oh wait the waters too Big

The river whips deal got very big very fast... I suspect it will die off the same way. Not sure I understand SWOOP's interest in them..

Wait a gawd darned minute, so your saying a semi pornographic boat forum, based off a free web cast social media like FaceBook will fail? Lol yea the whole River Whips thing, i think it’s cool to a point but it’s also i feel already getting too big for their britches. They cannot even keep their 10$ stickers in stock, if i was getting 10$ for a 4x6 sticker and couldn’t make them fast enough well I’d be making them faster. Lol

The biggest thing on RW is sightings. And if you don't have your sticker you can't get sighted LOL.
I see RW as a place to go for 5 word quips and quotes. that about covers it.

To put it on in front of DS jeopardizes DS as an event.. I.E. if they had a bad crash or something it would Tank DS. Most the people that would be key players into getting it off the ground were sensitive to that fact. The people that would handle the logistics of the event were also sensitive to that fact. So they cancelled it.

Didn't they put on a Rock the Docks event in Havasu last year?

Sure glad all I have is a 35 Nordic Flame. Nowadays people with boats like ours run in the crowd that includes Searays, Bayliners, and pontoon boats.
Don't have a clue about what is happening in the world of hot boats any more.

River Whips put on a event called rock the docks in coordination with the swoops. Pretty good event from what I heard! Raised like 50k for the animal shelter here in LHc
