2004 4x4 with 108000. Bought it in October with 89,000. Loving this truck!! Getting an honest 18-19mpg going to the river at 74mph. Anything more and I start to drop into the 17-16 realm

Not for now bud......no car payments on the cars is nice...Plus besides upgraded interior the new one really offers me nothing more than this.

I agree with you! The new ones don't get me all that excited. I've looked around for a 2006-2007(classic), but not much out there, so I just gave up. For the price guys are asking, I'd rather buy my old truck back, if the guy I sold it to would sell it back to me. I recently talked to him and he's only put 10k miles on it since Oct 2013. I want that 6 speed with the tap shift and no DPF to deal with again. The 06-07 are the best looking years too IMO. I'm gonna wait and hope that diesel prices spike so the truck prices will come down.

You know who to call when you think about selling yours. :D

I had a 2006 Duramax 100,000, had a 2010 140,000,and now my 2015 11,000 miles. Not one problem with any of the trucks change the oil and be prepared to put tires on it often.

The wife has an all stock 05 ex-cab 4X4 duramax with 212k and counting it's had a couple minor issues along the way. Still runs good and she isn't easy on it, one pedal is always on the floor which is why I've never chipped it. She just fires it up without waiting for the glow plug light to go off and it's in gear on floor headed out the driveway every day. We usually don't even tow with it anymore since we bought a superduty and I have a work truck. But last weekend we used it to go camp with the toyhauler and it felt gutless. After having my 08 superduty that's straight piped with intake and a tuner, which is what we usually tow with. The duramax just doesn't seem to have it anymore. My trailer only weighs 6500lbs and it didn't want to go much more than 50-55 up the grapevine while heating up to 230degrees. I had just changed the fuel filter before we left, it only got a whopping 8.8mpg on the 500 mile round trip which was mostly 60-65mph freeway. Whereas my superduty rolls 70mph and doesn't even think about downshifting gets 12mpg towing it and doesn't move the temp gauge. Not bagging on the dmax, that was just a good comparison between the two towing the same exact trailer. But driving it around unloaded like she does everywhere it runs great and has decent power. I have to say I'm amazed it's lasted as long as it has, that poor truck...

Wow that is sure different than my 05 DMax. I tow 18,000 lbs 55-60 mph up the grape vine. I did put an intake on it though. Maybe its the 350,000 miles it takes to break it in?:D

'09 with 40K, rarely gets used. Only problem has been Stabiltrac that dealer can't figure out or doesn't want too, but that's not engine related. I've had 2 Dmax, great engine!

2005 bought new, 171k miles on her now. no issues other than normal wear and tear. Replaced a water pump at 120k. I still have the original brakes she came with on the truck. Every time I have them inspected they've said they don't need to be changed.

Bought a late 2004 Duramax new,
I now have 487,570 miles in it.
Water pump around 240,000.
Original brakes pads, tranny, etc.
Everything still works.
River trips most weekends towing
Mountain Springs grade.
One of these days she's gonna blow.
Love this truck.🌴🌴🚤

I bought this one off ol' JP Marine. It's an 02 with 91k miles. I'm either going to keep her forever, or sell her when/if my boat sells.

I had that issue with my Cadillac CTS. The steering wheel positioning sensor went bad. I bought the part on Rock Auto and replaced it myself.

Dennis, did you find a video how to do it? If so I should try and fix it myself, dealer has had it 3 times and wearing me down.

Do you know where JP got it, reason I asked is that I traded an '02 into Bradley Chevrolet and that looks like it minus the shell.
+

No idea, I was the one that put the shell on it though. I think he said he bought it new, but I could totally see him buying it used for a smoking deal. It's immaculate inside and out. Just a few paint chips on the hood that have been touched up. It has beige interior though and is not leather.

No but I found some detailed instructions with pictures on a Cadillac forum. I'll try to find it for you.

It took me a couple of hours. I had to take off the kick panel and take apart a section of the steering column in order to swap the part.

I didn't read the entire thread, but I'm certain most people think these are great trucks and would agree.

I think one of the things that just blows me away are the brakes, I have a friend with an early 2000 3/4 ton with a little over 220,000 miles, and at the last service the dealer told him he had about 65% left on his brakes, and he'd probably never need to replace them. He doesn't tow much, but still...:cool

I tow a LOT. Did the brakes at 300k just because it was convenient.

So! I sold my 2005 last week. 360k on it. Running fine. The only reason for.the sale was that I happened in to a below wholesale 2013. Sad but not too sad. I never intended to let her go but something shinier and newer caught my attensuon. Ugh!

My buddy has an 04 with 325k. Runs strong, tows all the time with it, and goes back and forth from California to Havasu in the heat of summer. He is super happy with it, no problems so far, just maintenance.

My '03 DMax got new upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends and new pitman and idler arm last week. Just under 90K miles and one size up on tires with factory rims. It was PITA to do, but drives like brand new now. Did both front wheel hubs 2 months ago. Yeah, the brakes look like brand new!

Got 119,00 on a 2011 LML no issues now that I've deleted the DPF and did a 100+ hp tune. Now my powerband is smooth and linear and the turbo lag is almost gone. Did a trip to the river this weekend and running 80+ with the cruise I got an unprecedented 17.7 mpg - I was at 18.5 until the Indio grade. I'm sure if I slowed down to 70 I'd probably be able to crack 20 mpg.

Did you wait for that power train warranty to expire first?

I did the delete at 110,000. I just wish I did it sooner.

Since then the mileage has gone up - I got 19.1 average on one of my trips, but usually it's in the mid 18's running around 80+ mph.

My late 04 just turned 500,000 miles.
Bought her a new pair of Toyo Sneakers
And a fresh wax.
Only a waterpump and 1glo plug controller .
Original brake pads.
Waiting for the 2017 's to release.

Your glow plug controller... Was it the relay or something else? I'm getting a glow plug check engine light P0380 for last 2 months or so. Started fine in teen degree weather, but still getting the CEL. Thinking it's the relay that sends power to the plugs and signal to the ECU that they are coming on.

2007.5 just hit 100,000 miles last month. Only problem I have had was a glow plug and (like everyone else) a tranny cooler leaking at the fitting. I have been thinking of selling though, I don't haul/pull enough to justify a 3/4 ton.

Very common with Chevy truck to get 300k+ miles on the breaks.

I have an 07 Duramax LBZ with almost 130k on the ticker with the OG brakes. 500k just seems far fetched to me. Granted, I rarely use the brakes as I am always in Tow/Haul mode whether I am towing or not, or on the freeway or not. Plus, I have the turbo brake tuned in as well which also keeps me off the brakes.

Good to know.

My old truck was an 04' and my buddy bought it from me with 100k on it then he traded it in with 400k on it with original breaks still. Lol

Got 145,000 miles on mine and the brakes are still nowhere needing any attention soon. I'll probably check them in another 100,000 miles.

Yes, that's right.
I've still got the original pads and rotors.
I'm in Alpine -San Diego area so I climb to 4,000 ft then down to sea level to get to the river then reveres that to get hm.
I put brakes on every type of trailer I own including the flattie.

I think the code was U106.
Replaced the box $145.00, plugged it in and everything works .

My dad's '04 had 190,000 on the original pads, towing 13k frequently and no turbo or exhaust brake as it was bone stock. It's crazy how good the early to mid 2000's brakes were. Even my 1/2 ton has fantastic brakes.

It's really unbelievable how much life these trucks get out of OEM brakes. Have heard enough folks tell the same story that it must be true, but jeez...it boggles the mind considering how heavy these trucks are, and their intended use.

Not far fetched.
I learned from experience that riding the brakes or using them when you don't need to can get you in one hell of a predicament when you really need them. Stay off the throttle and just don't gain speed. BTW ,
Heaviest thing I tow regularly is maybe 5,000 to 7,000 lbs. but everything Is a climb or
Decent for me from my location.
