A week ago my 11 year old son and his buddies had a birthday party at Perris MX track. I was a little apprehensive because I dont ride any longer and not be able to teach the boy while riding with him kind of sucks (I have AMA racing background and lots of riding but too many ailments to ride). Fortunately he has spent some quality time with Holy Moly (and his boys) who is an excellent rider with as many years of experience as me except Frank is an excellent teacher.

So moving from the desert to an MX track is a bit quick for just a couple trips under Evan's belt on a bike. Evan just turned 11 a couple weeks ago and has been riding quads since he was 2 1/2. A deal came up and I bought a pair of Yamaha TTR125's from a neighbor that needed work. This was not Evan's gig but a schoolmate of his. There are only 3 boys that ride dirt in Evans entire elementary school which blows me away. They were gathered up and we all went here for a Sat. night with practice all day on Sunday.

3 Tracks but we camped in front of the Vet track as that was the track in focus. The pee-wee track the boys were too old for. Got there around 4pm, got $30 wristbands to ride the track and paid the $20 to camp. We were allowed a contained campfire which was cool and the kids rode their BMX bikes around the vet track in the dark. They had a blast. Other riders were accommodating the younger ones. Very cool.

Sunday came and went like a flash. The track staff wants you there and they show their appreciation. They were out early getting the vet track ready so the boys could ride it at 8 am instead of 9 and ride it they did.

They are starting to pull Elsinore's traffic in and getting busier I guess. Well see but I plan on going back next weekend and do the same deal. Here's a bunch of pics.

This is Evan.
TTR 125s look cool but they are NOT track bikes.
I dont want to buy an expensive 2 smoker unless he really gets the bug.

Evan has mastered this table top deal. Fun to watch him. He had about a dozen falls and a couple were big broken bike tumbles. Fortunately sister has the same bike so we scavenged parts and kept him going....LOL

Nice write up! That place is literally 15 minutes from my house. Evan looks good on that table top! Wish we could have made it, but I'm still getting over that stupid flu.

I think the best teachers for the kids are their peers. We say stuff to them and it is like anything else we tell our kids. The difference is I get on my bike and can show them...and ride away from them....so, they realize I might be able to teach them a little bit. I also do a little show boating...riding wheelies, jumping off of anything and everything, and making it look like I'm having fun and then they will ask me how I did that. Did Evan tell you about (one of) the spill where I helped him up from a silly fall in the sand, then roosted him as I turned around? They thought that was great. LOL Both you and I together make a decent teaching team and then the kids go work it out together.

Nate's next bike will be an MX style bike even though we mostly ride desert. Who knows, with so many tracks close to where we live, Nate may ride more MX. And then there is Marah, and she says she wants to ride MX too. We both know Cole is a forever trail rider...and in fact, would probably never ride again if given the choice. But he knows that the experience is good and he does have fun especially now that he is on the bigger bike. As for the other 2 girls...who knows. Although I did watch Tricia (6) doing some crazy stuff on her BMX bike this weekend. Riding that 50 gave her way more confidence on her bicycle and she was trying to do jumps and even skidded a corner...on purpose. :D

My garage looks like a damn motorcycle dealership!

I like it. :thumbsup

Those TTR's are recreation only. They look the part but are not MX'rs.

I had head clamp problems because there is not enough to hold in MX use and one hard crash...I had to loosen and align what seemed like constantly.

He broke levers and a perch
Broke both gas tank mounts
Front fender
Bent countless shit

He had fun and slept for two days after that. Bruised and battered but he's tough.

SharpShooter has posted about various MX tracks and how great they are for various level riders, even those that like to call a track a big pile of nope. :D

In my research, I found so many of them in the area...I was blown away. Got most of it from http://www.californiamotocrosstrack.com/

Lucas Oil/Starwest in Perris http://www.lucasoilmxpark.com/

Perris Raceway (OCM posted too) http://perrismx.com/ (this is not near the fairground/flat track, but is owned by the same guys)

Lake Elsinore http://www.racele.net/ Currently Closed to the public and pending lawsuit between park owner and land owner.

I can almost walk there from my house. On a summer night we can hear the cars at Perris Auto Speedway

Next time you're out this way shoot me a PM and I'll come have a beer with you and we can talk about PWCs, LOL.

I believe he was at the track off 74 between Perris and Elsinore, not Ramona Expwy.

Cool write up OC. Spent many days/nights at that track. You're a great Dad :thumbsup

My Daughter Kristin was very willing to give up parts off her bike so she didn't have to go out on the track. She called it a big pile of Nope. :D

Thanks Frank. Maybe well have to check some of these out. I'm not pushing it although Evan is all over me. I really don't see Baseball and MX racing going hand in hand. Since he was a 1st round draft pick he needs to own up and stay healthy. MXing is going to generate pain.

It's off the 74 a Lewis I believe. On the West side of Perris. I never even knew this track was here. Its called Perris Raceway and they also have a flat track and it was super fun to watch.

Ridden Perris, but love Milestone, everything's there, including food. Track is well kept and dirt is great. Love watching the kids, they are pretty much fearless.

I ride Perris since it's close to the house and relatively uncrowded. A fun track that is never crowded and allows camping is the Ranch, a little past Cahuilla in Anza. They have several tracks and allow camping as well, no hookups though. They have a Carlsbad Replica track that is pretty spot on. There's some pretty good trailriding there too.

He never owned it, and hasn't anything to do with for a long time. Goat runs a B&B type place in Randsburg that caters to offroaders. Perris has been there since the 50's. Now it's run by the same group that does Milestone and Pala.

My buddy is out at Goat's place in Randsburg now. Says its a really nice place. He's working for Chris Haines doing a 5 day riding tour for a few clients.
