Bad azz. I put CAT5 and HDMI ports all throughout my house when I remodeled, and thought I was bad azz doing that! LOL

So not worthy...

Not much of an update today. Got the rest of the custom shelves built and installed, receivers and BluRay players put in. Tomorrow we'll start on wiring the first rack up.

That's when the fun starts :)

Started getting some of the wiring done on the speaker wires. Before anyone asks, the white zip ties are temporary. Lol

Only had an hour or so to work on it. We're busy with some IT projects so these are on the back burner this week.

Gave the guys a break from the heat and got more wiring done... This stuff is really time consuming to make look nice.

We're heading out next week to wire another house at HS. Hopefully it'll cool down by then.

Here's a wire diagram myself and Carlos threw on the whiteboard earlier to make sure we had all our materials. Lol

Two Satellite systems?

It's two houses that are tied together. They will share some audio and video sources but will have their own separate satellite boxes.

The idea is to have them be functional on their own, but when we're both sitting on the patios we can share a source.

Each house will have:
One bluray player per house
Two satellite boxes per house
Two streams of music for that house only
Two shared streams (can be chosen from either house)
The camera NVR will be shared between both houses

This way the houses can be used independently or both houses can play all the same music throughout. (They are right next to each other)

How come you have a crown amp connected to a firepit 700?

Lol that's chicken scratch

It actually says firepit 70V. We have a bunch of landscape speakers going outside we're calling the firepit zone. Depending on the number of speakers we end up with we may run them in a 70v configuration instead of 8ohm. That crown amp will do either 70v or 8ohm.

Do you know anything about On-Q ?
That is what is in my house and I am still trying to figure the whole thing out. I am just smart enough about it to be dangerous and certainly dumb enough amout it to screw it up real good. :D
I do have some questions that I would like to get answered.:)

What system do you have? On-q has a ton of SKUs...

They approached us to offer a product on an MDU project so I may be able to help you out. Shoot me a PM.

I was just messin with ya... Bad ass stuff. Where are you at?

I figured. Lol. Was just having a good time back. ;)

We're based out of San Diego, but depending on the size of the project, we cover SoCal and Arizona from Yuma to San Diego, Chula Vista to LA.

Not much has happened on our end, but they've made a little progress. It's all moving pretty slowly.

Here's a few pics. Should be some more action on the AV side next week.

Been a while since I have updated this thread... Our houses are still moving slowly, but one of the other houses out here we worked on is finally finished. Now I think we are next in line :D :D

They have our garage fully framed and wired now, and my parent's is framed and ready for a roof.

Here are the current ones of the culdesac:

IMG_0677.jpg

They've just barely started on the grading around the front and side of the house, but hopefully this week they'll be able to get some more progress made.

We're making a few changes inside that set them back too. This was just a solid wall and made the shower feel way too closed in...
IMG_0613.jpg

Here is some of the amazing wiring we are seeing in these houses. There was supposed to be a TV box here, and when we cut the drywall we found this live wire just floating in the insulation. I guess they wire the houses before drywall (like normal) but don't nail on any boxes (???). After drywall, they then come back in and use cut in boxes everywhere. Pretty bizarre, and clearly, things get missed...
IMG_0550.jpg
IMG_0549.jpg

Figured I'd throw up some AV pictures since that's what this thread is supposed to be about LOL. This is the guys laying out the wiring harness for the last house we just wired. We get everything laid out at the shop and then roll it up on a spool and bring it out to Yuma. Once there, the guys just have to unroll it, pull it into the house and up through the floor.
IMG_0655.jpg
IMG_0654.jpg
IMG_0656.jpg
IMG_0662.jpg
IMG_0663.jpg

once it all gets pulled in, it gets terminated at the rack like this
IMG_0548.jpg

Here is the back of the rack of the house we just finished. We do a harness here as well that plugs into the wall plates you see above.
Before:
IMG_0631.jpg
After:
IMG_0632.jpg

The last house we just finished, TVs hung and wrapped for protection. (We talked with the client and went to a bigger TV in the second picture :) LOL)
IMG_0568.jpg
IMG_0567.jpg

That's all for now, I just ordered up the subs for the theater in the garage, and we have that all wired up for everything we need. Now it's just a waiting game for the contractor to get the patios and hardscape done. Then paint, tile the showers, plumbing trim, AV trim and finish etc etc etc. Starting to get excited again:champagne::champagne:

Correct, we don't own the land. We just lease/rent it. We've gone back and forth and looked at quite a few places up at Fisheds/Martinez. In the end we liked the total package of HS even if we don't like the fact we don't own it.

The other side of that coin is we got a great deal on our houses and they are relatively mild compared to what some others are doing. Some of the guys are spending $1m on these houses (bigger than ours) and still don't own the land. We will be less than that for both of ours.

Some new pictures from last week I forgot to post up.

Garage is all drywalled inside, not sure why they haven't taped/textured?
IMG_0794.jpg

There is paint on the walls, base and case are in, some stuff is starting to get cleaned up in the house. Tile has still yet to go in though... (the order is a little out of whack but the contractors are trying)
IMG_0796.jpg
IMG_0795.jpg

Roofs are stacked and should be getting worked on any time. You can see the footings they were forming up so they could frame the patios.
IMG_0801.jpg

This will be our back yard area, thinking of putting a palapa back here
IMG_0799.jpg

This is looking from our patio towards my parent's patio, they'll have covered patios on both of the structures.
IMG_0800.jpg

Racks are 90% completed and just waiting. The construction has taken just a little longer than it was supposed to :) We'll have our guys out there in a week or two to start trimming out the first house.

Stopped by the river on the way back from Powell to look at the houses. Just snapped a couple quick pics. The patios are all framed up, second garage is roofed.

Very cool indeed.

Questions, do you use some type of positive, filtered and cooled airflow system to keep the rack cooled and prevent dust from accumulating in and on the components?

Desert enviroments are tough on electrical equipment, that and the heat they generate.

Not on this project. The racks will have cooling fans, and will be inside the conditioned house, but there will not be additional filtering or cooling beyond that. On larger projects we do push for a separate room with it's own conditioning system but being that this is going in a double-wide space is limited and trying to carve out another room and install additional HVAC equipment would be far overkill.

I can dig it. I thought something like what they use in off road racing that filters the air using a small self contained air pump and filter, then an exit vent of some sort.

Fair enough. I guess in theory you could run the fans to draw air into the rack instead of being an exhaust fan and install filters on them but I'm not sure it would get the flow it needs to keep positive pressure. The racks aren't exactly sealed :grumble:

No, i mean a seperate air system that stands alone. Dust kills my electronics, so i thought something along the lines i was thinkin about would work for both reasons i talked about.

Thanks for chatting about it, your system is kickass and the thing i admire more than anything is the workmanship, all nice and neat.

Oh I hear ya and I think it would be killer to have that set up... Would just take a little more effort on sealing the rack (or the room). We're basically just talking about a parker pumper plumbed into the rack and sealing the rack just enough so it could acutally create positive pressure to keep dust out. I really like the idea and depending on sound levels may try to work something in. Definitely food for thought...

Thanks for the compliment

How much of that stuff is from Snap AV?

A chunk of it. On this build:

Snap:
Rack
Speakers
Connectors and Terminations
Surveilance
Video Distribution

Core brands:
Power conditioning and control (Bluebolt)
Automation and System Control
Audio Distribution
Lighting

Fusion Research:
Audio Streaming

JTR Speakers:
Theater Audio

Crown:
Outdoor Amplifier

We are starting to use the ELAN UltraMatrix for both Audio and Video distribution but these racks were built before that was even released.

Well, we are getting closer now... AV Finish and move in is this coming week... Then finish landscaping and exterior flatwork. Then the decorations etc :)

Whatdya' think? :tbi:

There will be a trellis on the columns on the left house and the face of the wall will be stucco. Built to help hide the AC.

Front is all pavers, back is flagstone and acid washed concrete.

We're stoked it's getting close. After the protracted building process it seems a little anti-climactic LOL
