I just purchased another gun safe. This time its massive at 72x50x28 and about 1500+ pounds. Instead of having too haul my BigTex tandem axle to Simi Valley and back I'm thinking about throwing it in the bed of my 1/2ton Dodge Ram. Do you think the truck could handle it?

I wouldn't try it
more than likely you will burn up a axle or pinion bearing if the rear suspension bottoms out and it will make the steering very unstable

axle bearings are about $50ea plus installation or at least $150 per side
pinion bearings are about $100 + at least $500 installation if you don't damage anything else in the rear end
steering and brake control...priceless for you and anyone around you.

take the trailer, the extra gas will be cheaper then yours or someone eles's life ;)

Call Boswell Safe and Vault. They will pick it up and deliver to your house. So worth it as sometimes they need to shim the front so it shuts just right. 951.553.6028 or 951.693.9798

Yes. I use to put 2500 lbs in my 90' chevy 1/2 tom back in the days. Leave yourself more room to stop and no OD on frwy.
Oh and don't do this a lot or it will wear your truck out.

Where do you need it taken to? I am 20 mins from simi. Maybe I could grab it for you.

I have carried a rhino that weighed that much more than a few times in a half ton with zero issues. If you can get it in/out of the bed go for it.

I have to go to El Sagundo for work Sunday and Monday so I figured I would look into seeing if anything fun was on Craigslist. Found that in Simi. I will be bringing it all the way back to Yuma with me. IDK maybe 290 miles? To far to get it shipped.

Finally looked it up. Payload is rated at 1770lbs. That's more than I plan on hauling but also a long distance.

How will you get it in and out of the truck and into the house? Is the floor rated for that weight ?

Forklift in, crane truck out. And I'm just rolling it into the garage on the dolly which is rated for 1200lbs. Good enough at that point.
