Anyone have one or anyone here install them? I am thinking about a small 8ft wide by 20ft or so long, or maybe 10ft wide by 25ft? Frank

We've also decided on a pool in Havasu, just in the "find out mode" now. This thread will be good to watch. Thanks

From what i've read, they are easier on the electric bill. The pumps dont have to work as hard because algae cant stick to the smooth surface. I'm thinking about one also. Not sure why there is a stigma attached to fiberglass pools.

I just had one done. Mine is 11x22. So far it has been great. One thing I like is the bottom is smooth as opposed to a gunite pool are usually kind of rough. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1406564560.078785.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1406564607.063641.jpg

We have one in Havasu. No problems with it. The cool deck is ready for a re-coat @ $1,800. :yikes

I'm with Steve on your pool!!! That's exactly what we would like to do. Plumb a chiller into that pool and it would be perfect for our needs. Who did it and maybe a round about price? Thanks

Not sure about price difference, maintaining or any of that. But I know I love the look of the pebble tech bottom that's what I'm doing next year for our house.

We looked into fiberglass and gunite pools for our Havasu home. We ended up with a gunite pool with 3M Blue Quartz mix in the plaster.
The quartz make the plaster a lot stronger and you get a nice blue sparkle to the water. The plaster feels smooth to the touch.

So far it is pretty easy to keep up and electric is not that big of a deal with new variable speed pumps. I use about 3-4 tables of chlorine a week in the hot weather and have used one gallon of acid since May.

I have never understood the stigma of a fiberglass pool either? They are maintenance free, easy to repair if damaged, and zero headaches compared to a normal pool. The normal pools you have to deal with stain treatments, and staining if dirt stays too long, or leaves, etc. etc.. It would seem to me that a fiberglass pool would be better on all fronts?

Yet their is some snobby "stigma" to them. When we were house shopping, it was brought up a couple times.. It has a pool.. ooohhh.. It's Fiberglass. :( I was thinking.. "Yeah ok.. I guess?"

I don't agree with the stigma but I can understand why there is one. Fiberglass pools aren't as "custom" thus not many options
when putting a pool in. Although they have come a long way in the last few years. Charlys for example looks sweet!

I have been to Yopengo's place over the past several years as a guest and a renter. His pool always look perfect.

An acquaintance down the street had a fiberglass pool put in and it looked great when I saw it. I have not seen it lately though.

I am considering a small one.

This looks great......I want something like this. Where I want to put it is only 18ft wide and 40 ft long so I need to find out set backs so I am thinking 8 to 10 foot wide. Frank

When I was looking at homes about a year ago, I considered a home that had a fiberglass pool. It was a very nice pool with the exception of its size. My wifes old Honda Accord could've fit tightly in the pool. It was pretty small.

I did hear a lot of good things about it though as far upkeep and convenience. I guess one of the drawbacks of a fiberglass pool is the design ... from what I remember, they are pretty basic ... not that there's anything wrong with that.

Steve, the pool was about 25K. With all the extra stuff and landscaping I am at about 45K.

In Havasu? No shit? Post a couple pics Barker and who built it.

RD

Mike Van Rooy. Everything you see here minus the landscaping. We just did that a few months ago. Actually even if you add in what the landscaping cost it was under $44k.

I've had one for about 8 years now and have no complaints. About 18k installed with all the concrete work and equipment. Maintenance and chemicals are low. Its like a big ass bathtub! Just got to keep the filters clean and watch your ph levels. I had to drain and refill about half of it last year cause the metal content got to high due to the fiberglass not absorbing anything as a gunite pool would.

I was in the pool biz for a long time. I'd do a glass pool now if it fit. Back in the day glass pools "dropped in" with a flange like the old spas. As soon as you walked in the yard you saw it was glass because of the lip. can't believe how much they are now and that you can do gunite cheaper. But I guess the cost of glass, rather, resin is so high now, and concrete is relatively cheap.

But what will it cost to maintain a gunite pool over a glass pool? I've read and heard the glass are so much easier to keep up and seeing how I won't have a "pool guy", I like what I'm reading and hearing.

I think if you want a small pool 8ft to 12 ft wide/20ft to 22ft long fiberglass is cheaper than a cement pool?

I was wondering if you have a problem with the water getting to hot in the hottest months, with your size pool?

There are a couple of ways to keep the smaller pools cooler. There's what they call a chiller and it able to bring down the temp 12-15 degrees and works like an evap cooler and then there's the PVC sprayer/ waterfall type of deal you screw into the return lines.

Maintaining a gunite pool is really easy. I spend less than an hour a week with mine and that includes vacuuming it manually.

My pool yesterday was 88 and today I will open of the small water feature that will cool the pool down to around 85. This weekend with the cooler weather coming in the pool with drop temp quick.

My pool is gunite.

I also hear it is common to have to re plaster at around the 10-12 year mark. Experiences?
