One word - Thailand
......and you could live like a king while traveling around the country for a month or so, and come home with money left over.

If you want to relax and still have access to activities from mild to freaking WILD - this is the place to go.
The people are great, the food is spectacular, and there's tons of stuff to see and do.

:D

10 days in Kruger park, safe, civilized, life altering.

Forget Africa....my Dad and sons did a first class tour of Africa...all they talked about was the 10 inch bugs crawling on the walls off their deluxe tent camps at night and during dinner. Totally gross, I wouldn't go there if you paid me.

There are no bugs in the BVI!

I'd start with Spain for a few days then head over to Italy, Tuscany, Venice and Rome. Then head south to the Calabrese area and spend a few days before heading over to Sicily. Well that's my plan for next year.

If you had 10K to spend on a vacation where would you go? Doesn't matter if in or out of USA or length of stay. Has to include airfare, lodging, meals, etc. Relaxation is a must as well as other outside activities if you choose to get up....lol

Mexico is out as well as the Middle East :) Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Costa Rica, Nebraska??????????

So.....where would you go?

Are you taking us on Vacation..??? Ft Lauderdale Boat Show,,????:champagne::skull

Croatia - off the track for US people but very popular for Europeans.

Beaches are epic.

BVIs are unbelievable. But, weather can suck in the summer. Doesn't have to be a full blown hurricane. They frequently get those "tropical waves" which make the weather like a constant bad monsoon day on the river or havasu. Other than that, I agree BVIs.

I would also consider a bare boat charter up here in the pacific northwest. The American San Juan's and Canadian Gulf Islands can be just as much fun as the Caribbean. Stops in places like Victoria or even Vancouver, you get some pretty decent night life and good restaurant selection. Sights can include killer whales. Excellent salmon fishing, etc. Its pretty tough to beat in summer

Tom has been in BC on his bike before but he should take a yacht charter to explore either the Gulf islands or Desolation Sound. There's nothing like it.I know everyone prefers the hot climate of the Caribbean but the Pacific Northwest should be on everyone's bucket list.

here's a list of yachts to rent.I like the 76' McQueen http://www.bluepacificcharters.com/powerboat/

Just my girl and myself. We don't like big crowds and appreciate nature/being outside. She is a very educated woman and has a lot of interests in architectural and history type stuff. Me.....I am just wanting those cold BL's along the way.....lol

If she is in to history and architectue, I would do Europe if she has not. For 10K you can likely do 16-20 days, roundtrip and hotels....as long as you are not trying to break the bank in 5 start accomodations. If you can do a little more time and more budget, for 20-25 days I would start East and Work west...Hungary (Budapest), to the Czeck Republic (Prague), to Germany (Berlin), to Holland (Amsterdam), to Belgium (Bruges), Italy (Rome), to France (Paris), to Spain (Barcelona), to the UK London, and finish in Ireland (Dublin).

With losing a day and half of traveling from the states, and figuring 2.5 to 3 days in each city, I am figuring about 27-30 days needed to do this right and it would be like about 12-15 if you really look for deals on hotels. But figuring 1100 roundtrip per person to France then most stuff in Europe is train or flying at or less than Southwest pricing. You figure East you only paying 100 a night for a hotel but as you work west it will get more expensive. Stay in the W in Barcelona (hands down)....Some of these cities you can power through in 2 days...so figure out the things you want to see and map out 4-6 hrs a day of siteseeing, eat on the run and sit down and have dinner. These are our sorts of vacations but lessor budget and more like 9 days...but we see a lot in a short time, 3 cities at a time in 7-9 days at 5K for two people. So for 10k should be able to do 18-20 days and 6 cities. You pic the best 6. Hope that helps.

These are not the sort of laying out by the pool vacations...but I can do that at the river, or the beach....I vacation to experience something really different.....

If you have been to Europe, then maybe BVI....that is our next trip....boat locked in for Feb 2015.

That boat and island hoping to secluded beaches and reefs would be awesome. Be even cooler if you could off the captain from time to time.

The Carefree inn has some good summer specials too :)

We plan to captain ourselves...you have to put your boating resume into their online deal and they can approve/disapprove you. Likely will have a captain on for the first 4 hours and then go about it ourselves.

I have ZERO desire to go to Europe, but given what your girl is into I would suggest a train tour of Europe. Personally, there is too much to see here before going to another country which is why I would rent a motorhome and take as much time as I could to travel the country and see the sights: Mt. Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, even the monuments in DC.

Europes bomb.

Did Germany, Austria, Switzerland, northern half of Italy and bullet trained over to Paris. 35 days. Rented a car and drove the vast majority of the trip. Trip of a lifetime and absolutely amazing. I love history and stuff so it was awesome. Castles everywhere, endless stuff to check out. Some memorable parts: Went to the Ferrari and Lamborghini factories, French and Italian rivieras, Monaco, Black Forest, Pompeii, King Ludwigs castle, Venice and Paris were some of my favorites

Everyone should go to Europe at least once. You really can't grasp culture and history until you are touching a building that is 800 years old.

I have been a lot of places and spent a lot of time drunk on far away beaches but none were as impressive as the 2 weeks I spent in Europe.

Like tank I love that shit and thirst for more the older I get.

Really all hinges on when you plan to go and with whom. Also what you like to do for fun. I'll assume you are considering after the summer break and a party of two who like to party. :champagne: If you are taking kids just ignore the thoughts below.

For real partying it's hard to beat an all inclusive cruise or even a resort if you find one you can tolerate for a week or more And as much fun as I've had in St. Maarten , Aruba, Jamaica, and the BVI, I think one small hurricane can ruin a whole trip. The eastern Med is still really nice in early fall, warm water, good wine, and $10,000 would go a looooonggg way in the Greek Isles.

A fall foliage trip on the east cast might be nice too. Couple nights in NYC dining and dancing and then Bed and Breakfast your way north. Kinda girly, but remember, a happy mama is a (enter your own description here) mama.

One of my favorite trips was a long week exploring from Saint Tropez/Cannes up past Nice, San Remo and into Monaco and Monte Carlo. We checked out some of the most amazing boats in the world, ate great grub and drank an ocean of good wine. Also did the Casino and went all James Bond with the stirred Martinis. Air fare might kick your ass so YMMV.

Didn't go to Capri. Furthest we got was Rome. Started driving in and it was a fucking nightmare. Turned around half way in. Roads aren't a do great in Rome. Driving on the autobahn is something everyone should experience too. Cruising at a buck and getting passed like you're standing still routinely. Crazy.
