So I left my home after a fight with my wife yesterday, couldn't find my wallet. She messages me today saying she found my wallet, but she wants $600.00 to return it. If I call the Whittier PD, will they send an officer out to assist with the recovery of my property?

Damn that sucks to hear.

Yes, they should. But hopefully she doesn't claim something that didn't truly happen once they do arrive. She may try and get creative once she realizes she isn't getting the $600. Good luck Brother.

If she's your wife isn't it her property too?

The wallet belongs to him so he should have no problem getting that back. I would just call Whittier PD and request an officer respond to assist with obtaining your wallet and personal identifying information that it contains.

If it's come to this, I would call the wallet a loss and perhaps start looking for a good divorce attorney and a new place to live. That being said, they should send a unit out to keep the peace while you attempt to recover your property.

Good luck to you...

The last time I did that I left with my car and my wallet, left everything else behind.

I let her grab what she wanted then when she was done I went back and grab what was left.

No advise. Good luck, been there done that one.

Ok what the hell is 600 bucks for. ? Your wallet and ID. This sounds ugly.

I would give her 600 bucks and a pen and a contract to sign or forget it. Play the same game. Damn squatters.

240 Hallett, Sorry we were on different pages there! ;) I already chalked the $600 up as a loss. I was more concerned about his personal stuff. ;)

Short answer: is Yes, they will keep the peace while you get your property.

Long answer: Tread very carefully here. Be prepared for questioning regarding your "argument" and don't be surprised if she alleges things against you. The cops will have a duty to investigate it. Unless there is something in there you absolutely have to have RIGHT NOW, I would brush it off. Call you credit card company's, bank, etc. Get new cards overnighted, and go get a new drivers license. If it is to the point where she is trying to blackmail you, what else do you think she is capable of? If she sent that to you in a text I sure as fuck hope you didn't delete it.

Nope, kept the whole conversation. Will they force her to give me my ID, or is it going to be a waste of a trip?

Probably less hassle to get new ID's and credit cards.
But the police should be able to do whats called a civil standby while you retrieve your things ,its probably not high on their priority list of things to to do so you may have to wait for a long time for them to show up.And then who knows if your wallet will still be available once they get there.

I can't believe what I'm reading, nor many of the responses. How big do you want that police department to become. What happened to personal responsibilty, not throwing rocks, but geez? Ask for thoughts, but send the police?

TB, a lot of members on here have been through some crap to say the least. Either in their personal lives because they have unfortunately experienced something similar or because of their profession. Police officers are constantly called out to assist with these types of situations. I think we are all trying to help him decide what to do by just offering our opinions. This type of situation could quickly spin out of control and he could be caught up in it if he isn't careful.

hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.... A police escort could keep this fella out of the poky for sure. Doesn't take much for a woman to completely destroy a mans life.

Be careful here folks. They are more likely to have wild make-up sex before it gets worse. Just saying.

Get over it and don't be that guy LOL

I have gone thru two years of bullshit from my ex and it has netted him nothing.

What's the saying?? best way to get over it is to get under it.

My life is always much better when the ex is getting laid

After all the medical things you have gone thru the last year, she is doing this to you? Like everyone else said, just let it simmer. Don't try to keep "one upping" her by calling police. Women are very persuasive and they WILL get the last punch in.

My buddy used to be a millionaire. He got divorced 6 years ago and now drives people in his car for Uber every night. She took everything.......literally. His response is, "Fuck it, id lose it all over again to get away from that crazy bitch!"!

I think showing up with the PD made her rethink her position. Cop was ultra cool. I simply stated, "I don't want any drama, she can keep everything in the house, but I have to have my ID." cop agreed with me and pretty much told her that verbatim when he went to the door. I waited by his patrol car, as to not onsite anything further. I just needed the ability to rent a car so I could get to dialysis on Monday.

Glad it worked out for you. If she is doing this to you during your rough time , she is not worth it. Or the trouble.

Good luck to you and keep you in my thoughts

Cutting my loses. I am to blame for my part in the downfall of this relationship, but I don't want the time I have left to be spent miserable. The fear of dying alone kept me around 6 months longer than I should have. Looking for some peace.
Bad decisions from the start of this relationship. I met her when I relocated from Denver. Devoted myself to the family. Didn't really make any friends, so the boredom will grow, quickly. I need to get out some.

I understand I spent alot if years alone , by choice. Make some friends and live today like its ur last. I try to everyday easier said than done I know.

I married a woman with two kids in the house and I devote my time to those three everyday , but rest a sure I make sure at the end of the day I am taking care if myself also.

I wish you the best in your new life adventure. [emoji106]

Edit. Go to the river and hang out. :)

Thanks for the offer Hugh! I have it somewhat under control now. I was sweating it for a minute though, I had missed two days last week, and unless I got my documents back I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to make it on Monday.

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck. Marriage is tough even when you both get along let alone when you aren't. Hope that you can find some peace in your life and best of luck with the dialysis.:thumbsup

Would like to thank everyone for the well wishes. It comes down to one thing. If you had a finite time left, staring your own mortality in the face for the 2nd time in a 5 year time span, how would you want to spend it? I just can't fight for my health, and fight for peace in a relationship. Something has to give. I am choosing to try and fight for my health. Maybe some peace. Live like I'm dying to quote a Tim McGraw song. I just want to be happy, as happy as I can be.
