The loss of life on this project will be hard for Branson to deal with on a personal level. No doubt he will step up and then continue.Takes pure guts to go to 50k altitude and be released from the mothership knowing it could go bad.Major loss of life.
I think Branson will re-evaluate his decision to put his entire family on the 1st flight as well...

The day of the Challenger tragedy TV news anchors were the first to remove their names from the civilian list.

Sad day at our company also, we do work for Virgin as well. Space program companies popping up in many areas. Everyone has been working like crazy, building engines for small crafts especially. Branson is just a down to earth simple man. Rip.

Sad deal. have a friend that worked countless hours on that project at Scaled Composites.

Sad that they call this crash and fatality an anomaly

Virgin Galactic

1 hr ?

.

Thank you for your messages of support; they are much appreciated at this difficult time. There is much speculation about what exactly caused today?s accident, but we will not have all the facts for some time yet. In the meantime, we wanted to confirm a few key details.

First, the Virgin Galactic team is cooperating with our partners at Scaled Composites and with the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Federal Aviation Administration, and local authorities on the investigation. The NTSB is scheduled to arrive in Mojave tomorrow morning to commence their investigation.

Second, local authorities have confirmed that one of the two Scaled Composites pilots onboard SpaceShipTwo died during the accident. The other pilot parachuted to the ground, and is now being treated at a local hospital. All of us are deeply saddened by today?s events, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those affected by this tragic accident.

At a press conference earlier today, our CEO, George said: ?Our primary thoughts at this moment are with the crew and family, and we?re doing everything we can for them now. I?d like to recognize the work of the first responders who we work with in the Antelope Valley for their efforts on behalf of the team. We?re also thinking of the team members that we have at the companies that have been working on this program. Space is hard and today was a tough day. We are going to be supporting the investigation as we figure out what happened today. We?re going to get through it. The future rests in many ways on hard days like this, but we believe we owe it to the team, that has been working so hard on this endeavor, to understand this and to move forward. And that is what we?ll do.?

Lastly, Richard Branson is on his way to Mojave as we speak to visit with our team.

We?ll post more information when we are able.

Minor set back. Don't get me wrong, my heart goes out to the pilots, crews, and family's.

You have to lose something to learn something. Look at every pioneer aviation program.

When your leading the charge on something brand new, you're going to have set backs,

God speed & tailwinds!

Rocket engines, which use stored propellent mass, are still in their infancy of testing and development compared to turbine engines.

Just as there were set backs in the development of turbines, there will be set backs in the development of these types of engines.

I heard on the news this morning that they were testing a new type of fuel for the rocket engine in the plane. This fuel had apparently only been tested on the ground and this was the first airborne test of the new set-up.

Condolences to the families of the victims :(

Space flight still isn't easy, something we forget.

Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
Through the great spaces in the sky
Be with them always, in the air
In darkening storms and sunlight fair.
Oh hear us when we lift our prayer
For those in peril in the air.

Blue skies and Tailwinds sir...

NTSB Cites Improper Pilot Command in Virgin Galactic Disaster
https://www.google.com/search?q=NTS...la:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=sb
MOJAVE, Calif.?An improper co-pilot command preceded Friday?s in-flight breakup of Virgin Galactic LLC?s rocket, according to investigators, when movable tail surfaces deployed prematurely.
Two seconds after the surfaces moved?with SpaceShip Two traveling faster than the speed of sound??we saw disintegration? of the 60-foot-long experimental craft, according to Christopher Hart, acting chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board
