Partial way through the hull gel...all the "orange" color is actually the mold itself that will be Silver Metallic when Gelcoater is done late this evening...lots of Pearl, custom fades, and other stuff...

_20150518_17_34_26_Rich.jpg

Hull will be a Carbon Fiber layup with exposed linear swatches down the sides...:cool

I'm really looking forward to finishing it,my back is screaming!:(

I don't know what kind of speeds they expect to see from this setup, personally I'm guessing north of 110 as a conservative number.Time will tell.

You guys should have seen the look on Gary's face earlier today.
He said "How's it looking back there?" I said "it's orange!"
He goes back and looks, then looks at me like:headscratch:

"I thought he wanted silver, black and gray?"

:D

These gelcoaters are some messed up dudes...:p

Somebody gives them a photo or drawing and sez "design this on some 600sf of fiberglass"...
They then have to lay it out backwards (pins to base) for spraying, then work "upside down" to get the job done...:yikes

Michelangelo had it easy...:D

Exposed carbon fiber? That should be awesome!!!!!

Yep,exposed Carbon.
It is quite a pain in the rear, for me and especially the laminators but it looks oh so sexy when finished.
Was a long day yesterday, went home about a quarter to 10 last night.
Kenny Smith and the detail guys were still hard at work when I left.

Take notice of that wood/green object at the helm. The gelcoat process was postponed for two days to construct and install that insert. It will allow the customer to run the Vessel View 7 screen. Its always best to take the time to do it at this stage rather than start cutting and pasting on the boat after its built.

And Gary, thanks for the sandwich yesterday:thumbup: It really hit the spot.
As you know I can't just stop spraying and go get something to eat.You know I turn into a Diva when I'm hungry :D

Yep,exposed Carbon.

Is there some kind of clear that gets sprayed in the exposed areas, at the same time as the rest of the gel, prior to layup? Are there any UV blockers it it or is that not a concern. I know some kinds of resins used in layup are sensitive to UV (creates too much crosslinking) and the pigmented gelcoat typically protects it.

Absolutely there is clear gelcoat layed down first.
We have gone one step further on this one. There are some complex angles around the scoop dead center of the deck.To avoid air pockets in those angles I misted in some black so technically it's a black to black carbon fade. Then another layer of clear gel and yes there is a uv inhibitor in that clear.
Jose the lead of the dept orders a special clear resin(read ridiculously expensive) for the carbon application.

So the process goes I do all the graphic, then back with black as is the norm with all builders, then uncover the "window" that will be carbon.Lay clear down, mist in the black, then back up with another layer of clear.

Gary, what kind of number do you think you'll get with the twin 400's?

Sweet ride. Going to be light and fast.

Im thinking 110-115 seems about right.

Its midrange cruise should be super serene compared to howling 2 stokes and fuel efficient.

Awesome.

Quieter than 2 strokes yes but less fuel efficient. The verado 350 and now the new 400 are thirsty.

Regardless this is going to be one sweet boat. Looking forward to the rest of the build.

Even under part throttle?

I would think it would drink more at WOT and use less at half - but I haven't read up much on them.

Either way - killer ride.

I don't know about the new 400s but the new V 350s are actually getting slightly better fuel economy then the V 300s at least on the CCs. Doesn't make sense but thats what I'm hearing.
