Just wanted to give a shout out to Kevin at KMG boats. Dropped off the new to me Cougar 22MTR to KMG earlier this week.

KMG is re-powering the boat with a new 300XS outboard and doing some fiberglass/gel work as well (dang the motor is big). The prior 300X motor rigged on the boat had two hoses running into the transom but the 300XS has only one that is larger in diameter. Boat is getting a new bimini, boat cover, and lots of other details.

Can't say thanks enough to Kevin. He is very detail oriented and customer service is over the top. He made everything so easy and one-stop. thumbup:

Does the XS on the back of your 21 Daytona look big? The motor looked pretty big on the engine stand! :D

Kevin fixed my boat when I was involved in a wreck on the bay. Super meticulous and has insane attention to detail.

you can't go wrong buying one of his boats or having him do repairs.

I'm used to the size of it now, but when we switched from the 225 ProMax, the Opti made that one look like a toy.

Just an update. Kevin has completed a long list of items in short order. Filling holes, gelcoat work, re-rigging a number of items, obtained a new custom made bimini & boat cover, hung the new motor, etc. Can't believe it but the boat will be ready in less than a week from drop off to pickup.

KMG is the bomb. Pictures to follow shortly

He does all my services, painted my Ultra 23xs, fixed a hole in a jetski, and Installed the motor/drive and all the rigging on my 27 Shadow I just sold. Good guy who is very talented. The 22's he build are DCB quality on the rigging.

Backing up a bit in the process, here are some shots filling in prior rigging holes in the transom, gelcoat work, and more rigging. If I wasn't excited before, I sure as hell am now!

What is the reason for the shifter and throttle levers being backwards?

It maybe an optical illusion but the throttle/shifter is correct.

great job on the rebuild...I might suggest covering your battery terminals so you don't accidently make a spark by them getting tapped by a chair or something....DCB did a recall awhile ago just for that reason...

Can you report back on the Bobs jack plate?

I installed a 12" set back Bob's Hydraulic standard jack plate on my boat and love it. It was a recommended brand when I was looking and scored a great deal on a new one. Highly recommended.

Thanks, that's what I'm looking to hear. Had Detwilers, but didn't like how they go down vs the flat bottom of Bobs.

Boat looks really good! I'm interested to know your performance number with this setup but more interested to hear your feelings about the improved steering. ;)

The amount of setback on these hulls always blows my mind. That bracket plus the hydraulic plate hangs that motor back quite a ways! :) Maybe that's why they seem to run so damn well!

Looking forward to more updates!

I don't have much experience with the Bob's jack plate. However, the one on my boat is the original unit and is in solid condition. It works great so far.

Kevin at KMG said these are good reliable units as well

The boat already had full hyd. steering to the helm (Seastar).

Cougar set up a lot of single O/B 19, 21, and 22 tunnel hulls. They actually manufactured the set back assemblies on most or all of these hulls. They did a lot of testing to determine how much set back/setback angle netted the best results. I guess putting the lower and prop in cleaner water and at the best attack angle generated the most efficient results and provides ample leverage to fly the bow.

The prior owner had a 300x and it worked very well he claims it ran 92-93mph with that set up.
