As we continue to endure our current drought conditions, not so long ago we had a significant El Nino that filled up lakes, rivers, and the like. It was 2003-2004.

Canyon Lake overflowed; Elsinore had to dredge a canal to let out water and the airport flooded. Water, water everywhere.

Part of the impact of all the rain is NO DEMAND for water downriver for farming, etc, so they shut down the flows out of Davis Dam.
There was so much runnoff that Davis was reduced to a trickle.

Here's a few pix that I've archived from those days:

Once most of the deluge was past, the started releasing water on a limited basis.
Water was flowing, but still too shallow for most boaters.
These shots of Havasu were around Presidents Day Week-end.

When my grandparents moved to Bullhead in 1960 (they built the first home in Holiday Harbor and we used to shoot rifles from the porch) my parents got a little trailer in Wagon Wheel trailer park. We had it there for a decade before going to Parker but Davis dam was shut down every Sunday morning back then. It looked just like the pics shueman posted except there was no Laughlin or power plant. There wasn't much of anything and it was paradise. If we left something on the beach across the river on Saturday we'd just walk across the river and get it. There was still a small channel in the center that we had to wade across.

Great pics, thanks for posting. Brings back great memories.

... Brings back great memories.

Love the old stuff ... I guess cuz we're OLD ... lol I lost much of my digital archives in a storage fire some years ago ... had a few more ...

We started going to Paradise Point below Aha Quin in 1960 ... actually were "charter" members of Ski-Land when in opened in 1959 (I think).
Membership was $55/yr ... not cheap back then

Wow. Cool pics. I was there to see this. I think I was 16/17 years old at the time. My friend and I literally walked across the river in BHC.
