Post up some pics of your dogs, past and present. The ones that guard your spot on the sandbar and keep birds from shitting on your boat.

This is Boo. He is a 5 year old Yorkie. He hates birds and horse flies.

This is Piper. She is only 5 months old, but she is a river rat all the way. Really, when she gets wet she looks like a rat.

Boris, he is 12 now and we are preparing for the worst as we speak, but he has been the best dog ever, can't keep him out of water, but the river is a little too hot for him, but he loves the dog beaches.

When we first got him
borispup1.jpg borispup2.jpg borispup3.jpg

Then he got big, and we realized not a husky or malamute.

Neela (means blue in Indian) our blue mini-weenie dog. Our upcoming river trip will be her first time at the river.

Reisa the black and tan mini-weenie dog is a veteran at the river

Everyone knows I love these threads because I'm the resident "crazy dog lady". Our dog is our kid, so..... yah, I'm a little nutty about her.

This is Kaiya, our 9 month old blue-merle Australian Shepherd. We got her a few days before this past Christmas after we lost our Golden Retriever to cancer (f*ck cancer).

She is 9 months old now and is so much fun. She's super smart and loves the river so much.

The first pic is her first ever boat ride was at 8 weeks (gotta start 'em early!). She's pretty much grown up on the river and to say that she loves it would be an understatement.

The last pic is my favorite one to date... That is one happy, sandy-nosed river puppy!

She's exceptionally well-behaved on the boat, especially after a full day on the sandbar running and playing :D

This is Zeke Da'man. Daytonababe and Molly are pretty much the reason that we rescued this dude. They were best buddies, he misses her a lot.

We have a recent female rescue banned Tiki Blaise, no pictures on my phone, she's a good girl with a bad attitude but we're working on her. Lol

This is Abby, or as I call her, Beeski when she was about 9 months old - she hates the water, she hates the boat, she hates the river, but my wife makes her come because there's nobody to watch her at home when the boys come to the river with us. In fact she hates water so much that if there is wet spot in the sidewalk, she'll walk around it or hop over it.

Here is a puppy pic of sweet Tiki - she hasn't grown a whole lot since. Such a cutie!

My female was that way as well...my male loves the water...after being around him she now goes in...she will go in about 3" right away and then work her way to her chest and will do some swimming...if she is around other dogs that swim she may develop a taste for it.

This is our K9 Klan. The Sheperd/Lab mix pair are brother and sister (Hank&Harriet) With thier step brother Earl the Bloodhound. We lost Hank (Sheperd looking one) last month after 12+ years:(
The Bloodhound came about while on Glamisdunesdotcom and we couldn't resist the picture. The guy was from Bakersfield area and met us at Magic Mountain. One thing I learned about pulling the trigger on a dog is to study up about them first. Hounds own you and you don't own them:grumble:

Our wonderful big girl, "Sadie", RIP. She spent much of her life at Havasu. Towed PWCs to shore and probably would have towed boats, if we would have asked her. Newfoundlands . . . Outstanding River dogs.

Sorry about the double photos. Not sure what caused that.

Always been fascinated by the breed, and I have heard yours was pretty special. The one that goes to Riverland every once in a while is awesome, she watches the little kids play like a hawk, more like a lifeguard. The owners young kids were horsing around and she was lying on the beach watching. Then the youngest one decided to climb on the swim step and then the hatch and was bouncing around up there. Dog instantly sits up and is on point, sure enough kid slipped and fell into the water and the dog was already jumping in before the kid touched water, I kid you not. Amazing animals.

Yes, they are special. Their heart and spirit is remarkable. There is a cove on the south end of the lake, just above Black Meadow, that Sadie loved. She'd chase bluegill there for hours. I have no idea what the official name is. But, for many of us, it will always be "Sadie's Cove".

There are many good River dogs. But, if anyone is thinking about a Newf, they are great. We always made sure she had plenty of shade and water, it she wanted. She seemed to think that any ice chest full of beer was fair game and meant for her. And all she ever wanted was the ice water, not the beer. At times she'd lay out in the direct summer sun, then run into the Lake, happy as hell. She was the "life guard" for all little ones in her area, our grandkids and total strangers. She was always happy to accept hugs from all of them. Yes, she is missed.

Sadie's cove is my fall back plan on big weekends. You can't tell there's anything worth stopping for from the water:thumbup:

Lots of happy dogs out there. My older yorkie, stands post on the bow when we are idling. I never have to worry about him jumping off until we hit sand, then he's off to mark things up. We know that no matter what the time of day, when he first steps foot on a sandbar we know we are picking up poop.

Our four year old Husky Ellie (aka Slut-Mutt) after a stressful day on the lake. The two Labs hate the water so they stay at home in HB. We can't keep Ellie out of the water; pool, lake or garden hose.
