I bought one of those Amazon fire sticks on the cheap.. And last night I tried to do the upgrade to turn it into a more or less magic box. Watched the video felt pretty good. Clicked the download link in the comments of the video per the instruction, and whamo.. Screwed up my brand new laptop.

Can't remove half of the shit it downloaded.. Now when I am uninstalling all these programs it is adding more..

I have a app on my (android) tablet to upload the program. 1st one took me an hour. I have done a few more since and got it down to about 15 min with zero problems! I tried with my laptop and it's the same situation as you!

also if you get it squared away, clear your cache and stop kodi. I do it before I launch Kodi every time otherwise it will freeze up a lot

That is why I left that to the pros. NO time for messing around on it myself, just want to plug and play. Hope you get it dialed in soon, because the Amazon Fire Stick / Box are bad ass!

Should've bought a MAC. I've loaded 2 with my Mac and no issue. I just googled loading Amazon fire stick with windows and everyone is complaining about what you had happen. :(

My computer just verbally said "this is a windows system warning.. Your computer security has been compromised..."

I am doing a factory reset. I just bought it so there isn't much on it anyways

Rule # 1. Create a system restore point before embarking upon any new software changes.
Rule # 2 Refer to Rule # 1.

Rule # 3 Unlike posting on cool websites, NO beer before making changes to computer. ( I sometimes forget what the hell I did to get into the mess I was in) :(

Are you running any anti-viral software or security systems at all? I have NEVER had an issue with my laptop with that stuff and I have only had PC's. Make sure your settings are such that have to ask you before installing any software and only install the name of programs you were expecting to install.

Just sounded like you could use some computer use 101. Lol!

Reading these Magic Box and Firestick threads plus the hassle many had getting the last UFC fight, makes me think this stuff is far from worth the hassle. When I sit down at the end of the day, the last thing I need is more hassle.:skull

This isn't a computer issue, it's simply unsafe browsing habits.

Be wary of any links found on YT, take the extra few seconds required to type in the linked sites directly. The vids I linked too - they tell you THE AUTHENTIC sites you need to visit and the one presenter even mentions untrusted vids on YT about Kodi.

So yeah, do a factory reset. Then take a system image copy of your files, which should have been the first thing you did straight out of the box.
Win 10 has that feature built-in
It also has bitlocker available which is nice for laptops
Acronis True Image still works with Win 10, it didn't in 8/8.1, so that's a second way to take system image copies.
I have yet to be able to play around with Win 10 and just yesterday noticed those features. I can't wait to play around further...just no time.

Win 10 only allows for its own AV/malware, Windows Defender. If you use any other AV, it's supposed to disable Windows Defender.

I reconfigured my system to run Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, and my older MS Security Essential still work. Previously I ran Windows Security Essentials and Malwarebutes Pro (for the real-time threat protection), but I think this is a better route since the newer Anti-Exploit is more robust, and the older MB is still free and can be used on an as-needed basis.

Did you try to do a system restore to a prior point in time before the crash??

I've saved about 500 bucks on pay per view so far. Hassle sometimes but I'll take that trade off [emoji4]

Dave, next time just do a restore to a date before you installed the problem program. Only takes minutes.

Forget the porn Dave... all you need is some Viagra and some Yayo __________

Mac would also help you avoid all these PC issues.

Is the upgrade you tried illegal/ copyright infringement?

Yeah it works.. It's a little more difficult then I originally thought because you have to hold your fingers up. I am used to resting them on the keyboard.

System restore does not undo the problem he stumbled in to. It acts like it will be it misses a lot. The factory reset he is doing is the best option.
