Dual 496 28 cat vs big power single engine 26-27 cat ins cost

I've heard that cats 28 ft or larger with dual motors can get real expensive for insurance. But I've also heard that single engine cats with big power can be up there too if over 500 hp. Can someone give me an idea about this. I need to know if this will be a factor with my next boat purchase. I'm coming from a 25ft cat with 500hp

It can be a factor, however there are a lot of factors that go into a policy. Value, speed, experience and over all coverage.

I have clients that pay less then a $1,000 for single engine cats, and some that pay $2,500. Twin engine's of course can be all over the map do to size and speed. Value is a big part of it, so as the boat gets bigger, the value goes up, the premium goes up. You don't have to expect to pay $6,000 just because you went bigger and twin engine. Of course it depends on the agent writing it to, some that don't have much boat experience or none at all will misrepresent the risk to be more competitive, yet the misrepresentation can fall on you.
