We had these nuts in the shop with damaged internal threads. I said to my self I can turn that junk into something useful, "buddy bearing pullers". So I got to work and bored the I.D. first. I then ran a 1"-8 tap to try to get something out of the damaged thread. I got a 1"-8 stud and drilled and tapped the one end with a 5/8"-11. I then installed the stud with some super glue into the puller body. I drilled and tapped one 3/8"-16 hole for a socket head cap screw to secure the stud to the body. I milled 6 small flats then drilled and tapped the flats with 5/16"-18 set screws. I repacked my wheel bearings over the weekend and my new puller worked like a charm...

So if your wondering where the slide hammer came from, it's the remnant of a 2" dia. boring bar I had to shorten years ago. One mans junk is another mans slide hammer. I made my own sand spike about 15 years ago (still used today)and this is what I used the slide hammer for. This sand spike can be driven into the sand below the surface of the sand (remove the slide hammer) so there is no trip hazard on the beach. The opening is where the rope loops through and attaches.
