No white motors on this, they are Mercury's, not johnrudes.

May go there Friday if ready to hoist on the scales to weigh. We have a goal weight based on the previous lightest boat.

Boat is looking good sir

Just saw merc's carbon series announcement. Might as well go for it since Eliminator calls my layup the carbon series, or maybe the carbon series + if they do anymore like it. I prefer that they don't because i want it to be amongst the fastest 28's with 400's. Knowing Merc, there will probably be a substantial upcharge.
I doubt that it is even worth 1k/motor since custom paint is far less and obviously more unique. I will ask for a quote. Motors probably need be ordered about mid march.

there were other enhancements to the carbon series like delivering more volume of air into the motor

http://boatingindustry.com/top-stor...-joystick-control-new-engines-at-miami-event/

"Finally, Mercury Racing also introduced the 400R Carbon Edition, a high-performance Verado outboard sculpted out of lightweight carbon fiber composite.
At 153 horsepower per liter, Mercury Racing’s 400R is the most powerful consumer outboard ever produced by Mercury and provides the highest power-to-weight of all other four-stroke outboards in its class, the company says.
400R outboards feature a custom cold air induction system for improved air flow and power development, "

Wow, that's about 20% of the discount distributor's price of the entire engine. Not worth it to save 4 lbs. A few added stripes to complement gelcoat will be free or almost.

I'm sort of curious about Nolis comment about more airflow.

@ $4,300 per side, yikes!! Yeah, custom paint pencils out a lot better!!
If you get quotes of more than 43 to paint both engines...call me!!!

I hope so since I am coming from a very fast, 135+ I/O, to a couple of "whackers."

Shue,

How do you blend the gelcoat from where the hull&deck cap to the rest of the hull? The gelcoat is 11 mils thick, how does one make the secondary gelcoat application smooth as silk and still maintain that bright red color?

i watched them doing this on this boat (mine) and it was just plain old experience. nothing fancy, just blending standard gel coat colors and blending in over large areas. they painted about 3 " above and below the bonded deck and hull intersection. they are almost done and it has been 4 weeks.

Finished sanding it all down...

step1. the red gelcoat is sprayed in the hull mold, then the lamination begins

step2. once the hull and deck are married together, bodywork will be done to fill-in and smooth-out the capped areas.

then the same red gelcoat is sprayed over the capped areas. when this secondary application of the gelcoat is applied, it will be 11 mils thicker than the get coat that was applied in the hull mold (step1). how does one complete the surface red gelcoat such that the 11 mils thick second application is not felt on your finger when you run your hand across the capped areas?

I had the opportunity a couple of weeks ago to see this boat during a tour of the Eliminator facility (thanks Bob). While I was there the team was sanding and polishing the red gel coat post capping. Based on what I saw the new gel is "feathered" or blended with the in mold applied gel coat. Much the way we used to blend old enamel or lacquer automotive paint jobs when you could still get that stuff. One of the things that helps is that the gel coat isn't faded (its brand new out of the mold) and the gel applied post mold during capping is the from the same batch/can as the gel applied in the mold and color matches really well. What makes the work the capping team does truly magical is that this boat has pearl and carbon fiber in the gel. I can't explain how they get that to match.

BTW, this boat is amazing in person. In fact just about everything at Eliminator was off the hook, great to see them busy again and building great boats that push the limits.

All the color is complete ... now it's time to flowcoat the hatch area ... hours and hours of all hand labor :eek

filler the area, then grind down smooth ...

next is primer, more sanding, then gelcoat ... these guys, Jose and Rojelio, are tireless, and proud, of what they do :thumbsup

Is this the crazy resin light weight one?? If so I'm very interested in how it runs and feels!

If by crazy resin you mean expensive as all get out...yep. This is it.
Bagged/infused, foam core, etc.
But.
It's not being built as a lightweight. You and I could lug our fat asses up on this deck and walk around no issue. Gary could probably jump up there too..:D

I expect it runs an honest 120-123 on any given day. More on the right day, moons aligned.

Unfortunately, the special resin and infusion did not save any weight. It may have added some strength since the deck feels much more solid than the very fast, lightweight boat tested by speedboat.

Can't wait to see the finished photos on this one. It looks to me that Eliminator went an extra step in luxury on this one. From the limited photos it seems to me to be slightly more higher end. Looking forward to some detailed photos

Just wondering what kind of weight savings were you expecting to save initially with that resin? If you don't mind disclosing roughly how much more did cost go up using it?

Boat came out amazing!!!!

I must say, that 400R is as natural on that Elim28 as peanut butter is on a PBJ-sanwich!

Now we need videos! ...muhahahaha yesh!

P.S. that trailer is killer too!

Are outboards as common as inboards with drives in the US? Over here most people with higher hp boats tend to stay away from outboatds due to high risk of stealing and high insurence cost.

They look very cool[emoji1305]

They seem to be catching on again, with the introduction of the 400! Very reliable, more cockpit space, 3 year warranties, etc.

actual weight with tanks 1/2 full, life jackets, safety equipment, and usual misc personal items, was 5024, not the 4600 reported on eliminator Instagram. that weight was w/o some interior, bimini, no fuel, no safety equipment, not the way anyone would run a boat. don't know why this weight was reported, but definitely fake news. as far as the 130 mph goes, it is just a wet dream. i did run 101 with just me in it and 40 gallons of fuel. since i have adjustable motor mounts, i will continue to raise the engines. water pressure is 40+ psi so i know i can go higher. first adjustment picked up 8 mph so i am hoping i can get to 120 b4 water pressure starts dropping. even the lightest weight speedster only ran 126 with the owner only and 123 with Teague and passenger in Speedboat mag test. that boat is about 400 lbs lighter than mine. since each 100 lbs equates to 1 mph with this combination, 119 to 120 is what i am expecting when sorted out.

120 is a great number. I would be very happy with that. Congrats again on a beautiful boat.
