After a few months of getting quotes and nailing down what we wanted to do, we are finally moving forward with our backyard remodel.

Bought the house in July and the backyard looked like this.

A lot of the bones were there with nice stamped concrete but a huge dirt lot just doesn't work with kids.

We decided to do turf with a pad under it where the kids new playset will go.

We will have 2 different kinds of turf put down to give it a design.

Turf should be done today and then the patio cover will hopefully be up this week.

These are the 2 different turfs. The thinner turf is going on the high traffic play area and then taller fescue will border the thin turf, kind of like a putting green.

The area that is not padded will all be the tall grass.

Looking good man. Those queen palms are gonna blow up that small planter space when they get big. Ask me how I know. ;)
I know....I am kind of pissed about that because the drawing that I drew up had curves going out where all the palms were. I was really surprised to see them do the straight mow curb. I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there.

Looking good.

How much was that pad deal? I have a bunch of grass I want to remove in my back yard.

Yea...it sucks man. It's hit n miss. I have 5 in the back. A couple are pushing out the brick. I know I may have to have them pulled at some point. Sucks because they are like 11 years old and perfect height...look good...partially shade the pool. And they ain't cheap to remove. I think I paid almost $400 to remove a different one up front that I didn't care about. Tore up my brick planter. At least you won't have brick on the front, but it may get into your turf.

It wasn't extra because they didn't have to use DG on that area and the prep wasn't as labor intensive as the area with no pad.

Looks good! That turf is crazy expensive.

No doubt. Those queens get a good 3' in diameter at the base in 10 years...

Personally, I would take those queens out and plant a pygmy palm that will stay small and not cause problems.
Plus paying a tree trimmer $50 a piece twice a year to keep them nice sucks...

Another option. Kentia palms are real slow growing and look great.

I recently had a couple queen palms die. All around my neighborhood people are saying they have lost several as well. I would get rid of them while still manageable if they were in my yard.

We lost all of ours last year at our house in Phoenix. We had an arborist out, and he couldn't find anything exclusive as to why. We haven't decided what to replace them with.

Looks great Joe.
If you have a drawing that you both agreed on then I would tell them to fix it.

Tell me about it. With it being winter and all the rain, I haven't ran my sprinklers in months. Water bill was over half off normal and already was way cheaper than my last house.

I showed my dogs this pic and they are ready to come by and "christen" your grass. . .
The thin turf is what they use for pets so it's "friendly"......Winds were crazy last night......They are coming back on Wednesday to fix the palms.

Started the patio cover today. I begged for a drawing to sign off on for weeks and never got it so of course they start building this thing and I am like WTF!

After some back and forth I finally decided to live with their design but because of it not being exactly what I want we are getting some additional work done without charge.

They are going to repair the patio cover on my side yard and they are going to rip out all the plants and bark in our front yard along with prepping it for our front yard project that the wife and I are doing ourselves.

Should be done tomorrow.....Time for a drink.

Thanks Paul! Just an Alumawood patio cover. Doing a solid cover with a couple fans underneath and a few outlets in the beams for market lights, a TV or anything else we might want to plug in.

LOL Pay someone to put that thing together your time is worth more than that! It took me a good two solid days to put my daughters together and I wouldn't do it again.

I had to get moving on this thing if I wanted to go to Havasu this weekend.....😬

We had a small delay with some damaged parts and with all the rain I didn't get a lot done.

Should be completed tomorrow.

They use Duralum products. There are other manufacturers as well.

Yeah they sure are. I'm trying to figure out how to Anchor It Down because the spikes that they give you R4 grass and we have the turf.

Yeah you want to anchor that baby.
I had a swing set for our kids that I poured footings for the legs so it wouldn't tip over.
When we sold the house I cut the legs off and left the footings there...the new owner might get a surprise if they ever dig there. LOL
