Finally got my motor put together yesterday and it was a learning process for sure. Done a lot of BBC drag motors but this is my first boat motor I have built. The motor has a mark IV block with a factory roller cam plate (that threw me), stepped nose cam, 088 heads (had to find the right head gasket) and had to use a mark VI timing cover. It is a 548 with 10:1 compression.

You didn't have to use the cam plate and stepped cam. A Gen 6 cover only has six bolts,, Gen 5 has same ten bolt pattern as MK IV, but the oil pan gasket will not work. How did you work around that?

*I went back and looked at photos, that's clearly a MK IV timing cover.

Sorry I meant to say a Mark VI timing chain not cover.

That tracked device is a snow blower waiting for all the snow we never got last night.

This is my nostalgia FED and it is for sale as I have a boat now LOL. It runs the NE1 7.60 nostalgia index class.

So what does it take to go nostalgia dragster racing? Beside $$$

Is there a driver licensing/qualification process?

What are the car inspections like? Frequency, technicals, etc?

Sure looks like fun (I don't need another hobby, but...)

Cost is really what you want to do. Some people have million dollar coaches and pull stackers to run NE1. I have an open trailer and a buddy brings my old travel trailer but we have more fun then anyone else there and people are having fun!!!
Yes you do need to get licensed in the car and it is just 5 or 6 passes I think. Not a big deal now that you don't need a physical if you go slower than 7.50. You can also run NEIII (9.60) or NEII (8.60).

If you are in socal you are close to the best nostalgia experience anywhere. Bakersfield is the premier nostalgia track and is so much fun. ANRA also runs at Bakersfield and has a lot of races.

I am only selling due to a medical condition so I got a boat to spend money on instead. I have a buddy currently building a 6 second FED after he drove mine. He got bit real hard.

My car is $18500 and have a suit, helmet, Hans device and everything to go race today.

Finally got some time for the valvetrain. I ended up doing all new for this build as it did not have good rockers and who doesn't love new valvetrain. I really like the Comps I got for rockers and ended up getting the morels with .750 wheel. After destroying two drag motors with lifters going south I always try not to skimp on lifters. You might want to consider some type of girdle setup for the rockerstuds

You think it necessary for a 5500 rpm motor? I am used to using shaft rockers so I really didn't think it would be a bid deal on this rpm range.

Prolly not. Looking at the top shelf parts you had going, I figured this girl was a 6500 7000 machine.

I don't think so either, I put together too many of them that have no issues.

A bit surprised to see you with the cork end seals on the block, most people prefer silicone now days, less prone to leaks I think.

I know but I have been doing it the same way for so many builds and have had zero issues with the procedure I use. We will see if it does on the dyno run.

I am sure it will be fine, just caught me by surprise. Most of the gaskets I buy don't even come with end seals anymore. It's been over 20 years since I started using silicone only, and literally hundreds of engines. The big trick now if finding "good" silicone.

I don't think I have used them for at least 20 years, Silicone is just easier. I like the Delco 12378521 Engine Sealant, never let me down yet.:thumbup:

Here is the complete graph. It it a little fat and the shop also used 1 3/4" headers on it so the exhaust was not the best. Had a bad lifter in it on initial startup so that took a little bit to figure out.
