The boat currently has four 4-ohm speakers wired to a 4 channel amp. Simple

I am thinking of adding one more pair of component speakers for a total of six.

Can I safely parallel 4 of the speakers to two channels for a 2 ohm load and wire the new set to the other 2 channels for a 4 ohm load. i.e. mixed ohm load to the 4 channel amp?

Thanks W29! :)

Doesn't make that much sense to upgrade to a 6 channel amp when a head unit has only a 4 channel output.

Adding a set of JBL GTi 660's to the front stage. They are an amazing set of component speakers.

Peak: 1200 watts per set / 600 watts each side
4 ohms impedance
Sensitivity: 92dB

Nice! Those are supposed to be really good.

As W29 said, you should be good if the amp is 2ohm stable.

I have had 6 and now 8 speakers on my 5 channel amp with no issues at all. All my speakers are just high end JL 6X9s.

Have you taken a listen to any of the Hertz stuff?

Those will be very nice! I hope you will be putting at least 150 watts to each one, anything less and you won't get the sound quality out of them.

I haven't. What are your thoughts on their stuff?

I was extremely impressed when I auditioned them. I compared them to JL, Infinity, and a few other brands and they were hands down the winner to my ears. Just throwing out other options you could consider.

Got the amp installed. Wow. Way more clean power than the old mtx amp that was in the boat. Lighter and smaller too. The existing speakers sound better

Now time to plan to install to jbl 660gti component speaker set.

Since I'm having the interior redone, should I have speaker enclosures built in the side panels for the mid bass woofers. The manual noted if one is planned. Build a sealed 1/8cubic foot enclosure.

Or don't worry about it and go infinite baffle

Build an enclosure for sure, it will dramatically improve the mid bass.

I unwrapped the Gti's. Wow they are beasts with a huge motor structure.

The speaker grills are beefy as well with 2 choices of the outer ring. Leather wrapped or carbon fiber look

Also I'd suggest using the large tweeter surround it will help with output kind of like a horn design.

Thanks. That waveguide that came with it is metal and pretty big. Even the tweeter mount is metal.
