I've been working on a detached garage/pool house at my place since last summer. Now that it's basically finished, I'm finally getting around ot posting some pictures of the project.

I moved into my current house about 10 years ago - I have a 42' deep bay in my house that my boat fits into, but always had intentions of building a detached garage on my lot when I had the $$ to do so. I finally got around to the project, and it evolved a bit and is now a combo pool house/garage due to the layout of my house/lot. I ended up building a 1 bedroom/1 bath place with a 2 car garage that is approx 24x24, and also an RV garage that is about 25x52 with 16' ceilings. See below for some construction pics.

First - Here are some pictures of my lot before anything started.. My lot is wide but not overly deep, so the layout worked to build the garage with it's own driveway, etc to the street. My house is located to the left in these pictures. The block wall is my backyard/sideyard fence.

A couple of pictures from inside my backyard.. We left a big portion of the backyard as just dirt for a while since we planned to eventually put the garage in

Stem walls and underground plumbing. In one of the pics you can see the large trench that was dug for the connections for the utilities from the main house.

Last couple of pictures I have right now. For the big garage, I wasn't sure what to do for lighting but I knew I wanted it bright. With 16 foot ceilings, I didn't want to worry about replacing fluorescent tubes and also I was worried that I wouldn't have enough light output to keep it bright. I ended up using some linear LED fixtures that put out 16,000 lumens each, and I used 10 of them in the big garage. I'm pretty happy with the results.

The construction is basically finished - I need to clean up the RV garage and then move my boat and truck into it as soon as I get some free time.

Are you putting in a bedroom as well - making it a casita of sorts?

Yes - the pictures don't show it very well, but there's about 1100 sq ft of livable space - Basically a 1 bedroom 1 bath casita. Next up is to try to get a pool in the backyard before summer...

I finally got around to moving the boat from the main garage at my house to the "big" garage. I'd like to put a finish on the floor at some point, but I'm also getting ready to start a pool project so I need to watch my $$$ on some of these things. I'm pretty happy with the extra space, now I have lots of work to do to organize things before boating season kicks in.

Who did your build? We are preparing to do an RV garage on our house and I want to get a couple quotes and referrals. The job looks great.

Not sure you will get a Scottsdale, AZ builder to drive to Havasu for the quote or build.

Wendi,
Call Jeff at Flying J Construction, he's done projects for a few of us here and I've not heard anyone that was not pleased. 928-486-0773.

I took a little bit of rest from this project, but a couple of months ago I got things moving on a pool. It's moving a little bit slow, but hopefully it will be done in "two weeks" or so....

The detached garage was placed on my lot so that we could also use it as a pool house/casita. My lot isn't very deep, but is very wide so the pool is going in between my house and the garage/pool house.

Some pictures of the yard before, during, and after digging, along with pics showing the plumbing, rebar, and shotcrete

I'm currently working to line up coping, decking, and tile before the shotcrete is finished curing - I'm doing this as an owner/builder and all of the pool subs are busy right so it's taking me longer than it should get get things scheduled..

I went with all Pentair equipment, including a sand filter, variable speed pump, their eazytouch automation system with salt cell, and color LED lights.

A litle bit of progress on the pool - Travertine coping and decking is almost finished.. Hopefully tile this week and plaster within 1-2 weeks.

Thx Tank - No baller here.. We built this house back in 2004 and have lived in it since 2006.. We always had planned on doing the garage, but it took a while to save up some $$ to do it. Come on out to AZ - plenty of land here!! Hope all is good with you and the fam

Nice job on the whole project!

Thx - Overall I'm happy with things, but I'm ready to get rid of the construction zone in my backyard. :p

The pool is more or less complete - I filled it with water at the end of last week and so far it's been great. I have some final things to wrap up and then get some landscaping done to complete the back yard, but it's basically done for now. This was a fun project, but I'm ready for a break from construction lol.

Nice work....it all looks great! And very functional and fun. What is the stone around the pool. It looks great.

I take it you are not in an HOA.

Thanks - I did the pool as an owner/builder. There are pros and cons to building that way, but for me I'm glad that I went that route. There were a couple of things that I needed to fix that likely would have been caught earlier by an experienced pool builder, but overall I'm happy with how it went.

The pool is a play pool, roughly 15 wide and 30' long, max depth of about 5', 100 linear foot perimeter.

Thanks! The stone around the pool is travertine. I did a salt water pool and had some people tell me that the salt would eat the stone over time, but I had more people tell me that travertine is fine around a salt pool. I guess I'll find out a few years down the road. :)

I actually do live in an HOA, and I was pushing the limits to get everything done. In the end, everything was fully approved by my HOA and fully permitted through the city.

I live in cave Creek, AZ, which is on the North side of Phoenix
